Fuel system recall?

http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/pr...type=DrillDown

Edit: Some more info.

Make: MITSUBISHI Model: LANCER
Model Year: 2009
Manufacturer: MITSUBISHI MOTORS NORTH AMERICA, INC. Mfr's Report Date: SEP 08, 2009
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 09V349000 N/A
NHTSA Action Number: N/A
Component: FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER: DELIVERY
Potential Number of Units Affected: 6903

According to the letter sent to the NHTSA, the service director at MMNA listed the following vehicles as being potentially affected:

Evo-X 2008-2009 Manufactured bet: 8/7/07-12/11/08
Ralliart 2009 Manufactured bet: 11/29/07-1/29/09
Ralliart Sportback 2009 Manufactured bet: 6/16/08-9/30/08

The total # of vehicles in each line up potentially affected in the United States:

Evo-X: 5427
Ralliart: 1466
Ralliart Sportback: 10

There were 2 individual cases of the fuel line leaking dating to Sept 08 and Apr 09. The safety recall was advised by the engineers on 8/31/2009.

Dealer notification will start: 9/22/2009.
Customer notification will have completed by 9/29/2009.

What's funny's at the end of the letter it says:

MMNA does not consider this an immediate and substantial threat to motor vehicle safety. Therefore, the three-day dealer notice does not apply.

I guess if your vehicle is manufactured after Feb 2009, you're safe?

OTOH... might be a good chance to let the RA burn to the ground and get the sportback for more versatility...

I called the dealer about the recall but he said there weren't any open recalls on my car at this time...could be that the DOT website knows about it before the Mitsu dealers.

According to the recall summary, this was just released 2 days ago and the recall is supposed to begin at the end of the month.

as all of our engines catche fire before the dealerships get notice of the recall. If this happens, all in for a 2010 X group buy?

Might be that only 6903 have that defect? There was a recall on the 2008 toyota camry that affected 55000 cars. I'm sure toyota sold a helluva lot more camry's than that.

Otherwise if that's true... then Ralliart's are more exclusive than Evo's by a factor of 5:1. Being that there are 1500 in the US, that means on average of 30 Ralliart's per state.
