Not really much to discuss. $ for $ and with equivalent mods, the WRX (faster stock) ended up faster modded around a track than the RA.

Also, the differences in the North American version may be even greater (larger displacement than the JDM and Australian market WRX's)

I clicked the link, but I am at work so I can't watch the video. And I don't want to join their little club just to see what modifications they feel address each car's weaknesses. If someone doesn't mind posting them, I'd like to see list of the mods they did to each car.

I'm somewhat new to this site and have not seen all the drama from that last million "whos better - whos best" nut swinging but here is what I see from driving the RA and my 92 Galant VR4.

The comment about what a race car driver thinks is best. They will ALWAYS go with a car that gives them complete control over the driveline.

A stick will always be preferred by someone that is used to driving an automobile at its limits.

The SST (in my opinion) is not a racing/performance unit.

Anybody looking for a track car will choose the EVO or the RA any day. Really the same with the STI over the WRX.

The RA is a more civil car on the traffic packed streets.

The SST is not good for thrashing the car because the CPU can't keep up with the human brain wanting instant responses and expecting the same reaction every time.

In short, if I wanted a car for performance only and my choice is the RA or the WRX. I take the WRX.

But I need a car that is civil 95% of the time but still can get up and go when needed. I also did not want to be tied to a clutch pedal in bumper to bumper traffic. So I choose the RA.

Besides, the RA looks 1000% better.

Holy crap this driver is a flipping complete idiot! Why in the HELL would he use the automatic mode with two magnesium paddle shifter there meant for road course racing. Plus you cant take two cars and do completely different mods and say oooo well this one drove better around the race track because it had way better tires on it ( NO crap ). Mode these two cars note for note then call me back. Next time you see an F-1 car run it has a tranny THAT WORKS like the R/A does. When Car and Driver did a VS. comparison the MR out drove the GSR on the road course by like 2 sec. The professional driver they had in the magazine article (Not an old man in a race suit... Dying hysterically at that driver in the video) said the SST was quick ,agile, never hesitated, and putting the car in paddle mode gave him complete control of the car. The SST is a road courses worst nightmare. Hell he probably didn't even have it in Sport mode either. You can change gears faster then humanly possible with a flick from your finger but why would you want to use that in a race hmmmmff.

The frickin Aus/Brits have always been Subby fans boys anyways and it looks like pure **** propaganda against all god loving american R/A owners. And I for one don't like. Go Mitsu!
However, I think this is actually impressive. .6 seconds faster on a course with inferior tires is actually not bad at all, with proper tires it's probably as quicker, or quicker. Both these cars are matched evenly enough for it to not really matter in the end anyway.

"MRT provides the ability to modify your car and keep the benefits of the factory warranty."

I nearly fell off my chair. Actually, let me go get a chair and fall off it right now.

That's why I was curious what mods they did. For me, I'd like to see a WRX and RA go head to head with only mods that would not (or at least have very little chance of) impacting your warranty. E.g, rims, tires, brake pads, drop in, weight reduction. Suspension modifications might also be included. In essence, no invasive modifications, no tuning, and nothing that would violate smog regulations.

The other option would be a mod budget. LOL, though I think GST screwed up that equation in the RA's favor.

Ok, after watching the video I do have one question. Why the hell when doing the comparison wouldn't you put the Ralliart sedan against the WRX sedan? If you are going to do this comparison put hatch against hatch or sedan vs sedan. The way they conducted the test they put the heavier Sportback against the lighter WRX sedan. I mean I know the Subaru is lighter to begin with and then it's magnified by the way they conducted the test.

Still not too bad considering it was only .6 sec behind with pizza cutter with OEM yoko's.

Put some sticky 225-235's on the RA and it'll more than make up for that.

The end was a joke my friend. Not just some fan boy. But the unfair comparison with different mods, bad tires, heavier hatch back, and not using the SST to its full capability are facts. If anything was biased it was the video and your hypocritical agreement with me about the tires.

Sure, now that I can actually check the links, they are no longer working. I wonder if they got the feedback, were sensitive, and took the review down.

? Hypocritical agreement with you? When did I ever say you were wrong? When did I ever disagree??? I wasn't referring to your comments about the performance. Just overall butt-hurt reaction and retaliation against the driver and comparison overall. And your "joke" is by nature a half joke/hyperbole..

They mod according to the weaknesses of the car, what they believe they can do to improve the car's performance. If they did the same mods to the RA that they did to the WRX, I'm willing to bet the car's performance would have been worse.

Also, I didn't catch where it said he was using automatic mode? He clearly hits the paddle to downshift, as well as the shiftable gate. When he mentions the quickshift automatic, he's referring to that in terms of speed of the shift compared to the manual WRX, not using automatic mode.

Great comparison overall.

all of this

how come they didn't use both either hatch or sedans... I was like O.K.? and how about putting performance tires 225mm on both cars... I know WRX's are better off the factory (one thing being a wider tire) but they should have grabbed some potenzas same spec 225 and fitted both car with these...

oh and how about leaving the dam car in Auto + Sport

btw, was it me or does the subbie sound badass?
