Front license plate position?

My state requires plates on the front and the rear, unfortunately. When I brought my car to the dealer to get plates put on, they drilled into the black plastic in the front of the car to put the front plate.

I've seen a few Evo's which have it offset to the right (if you're looking at the car facing the front), which I think looks tons better. And one of those Evo's was from the same dealer, so I know they can do it.

How much would it cost to replace that black plastic piece and get a license plate holder that will be offset to the right?

It's like this currently:

I want it to be like this:

I believe there is carbon fiber pieces around to replace that piece.. or you could just use black vinyl to cover it..

Also theres a few sites that have the side plate mount. Just gotta look around.

Here is the side mount plate
http://www.mitsubishiparts.net/catalog/?section=610

U can always just go to a hardware store and buy black plugs to fill the holes in the black plastic

That's the mount I purchased for mine, my dealer also had to drill into the bumper on the front of my car, thus leaving two 1/2" holes when I moved my plate to the side of the vehicle. I stopped down to Lowe's and picked up a pair of 1/2" black vinyl stoppers.

Here is the outcome...

Sorry for the mass amount of dirt =)

I also ordered mine from Mitsubishiparts.net and just got it on yesterday. I had a center mount originally, so I filled the holes with hole plugs from Lowes. Overall I am very happy with the results! Here is a picture:

How easy/hard is it to put on the side mount piece? I assume you have to drill into the metal, right?

not metal, just plastic. basically hold the plate mount piece where you think it looks/fits best and mark where the holes are in the mount onto your bumper with marker, knife, whatever. then drill out 1/2" holes (I actually did 15/32" holes for a really snug fit) in the plastic bumper. use the factory supplied rubber grommets in the holes, then screw in the mount

Yeah, New York sucks doesn't it? Why the hell do we need front plates? I haven't yet put my front platplate on. I have been pulled over several times and only one cop gave me a hassel. No way am I going to drill holes in my 28k Ralliart! I guess being a shift manager at Dunkin' Donuts probably helps for not getting tickets.

I put my on the passenger side of my windshield with some foam over the ends so it doesn't chip the windshield. I haven't had a cop here in ohio say anything about it. Can you guys get away with this in NY?

I tried that on my last car with no luck. In NY you need a front plate or you will get pulled over. I can't wait to bolt on two of those new "Empire Gold" plates

Out of curiocity, where did you purchase your Ralliart? (Sorry for being off-topic) I am also not thrilled with having to have a front plate in NY, I haven't seen any Ralliarts in Syracuse whenever I'm up there...
