AWC stopped working

Well it was about -32oC a couple days ago, and ever since then my AWC selector stopped working. It doesn't even show up on the little drivers display, and hitting the button does nothing. I hope I didnt kill it.

do you have an error pop up on your display, because you may have had the ACD pump failure which i believe may be my issue aswell. Couldn't get out of work today to get it checked. But tmw i will have it done for sure.

I get that light orange screen telling me to get a service. The part that shows either TARMAC - GRAVEL - SNOW isn't showing. Although it does show for the first few seconds the car is running, then disappears.

I can only think my center diff. is pooched, or the cold is making my car think it is broken.

did you get the awc reflash prior?

if not go get it, otherwise you just need it reflashed at its current settings and you should be fine.

the only time i noticed anything with the mode on the screen is when its flippin cold out, and when the car isnt totally warmed up, the mode blinks, and you cant change the mode, but after u get going it stays solid, and u can change the mode...but i assume thats the norm

but i did have my car go into limp mode on the weekend, the AWC error went on, chk engine light went on, said it needed to be serviced, there was no boost, no power, couldnt go over 60, and it took forever to reach 60, sit in idle and the revs with fluctuate from 700-1500, sounds like it was dieseling. Turned the car off for 10 mins, and turned it back on and it went away, but chk engine light was still on , the next day the chk engine light is gone, but now its back on...this is the second time its happened

I haven't had a problem with the AWC, but while I have all the etown guys attn, do you guys notice any weird "grinding" noises when you first start your car, while idling, and its really cold out? like it almost sounds like loose change in the tranny...i'm going for a service at NSM in a week or two, and i'll bring it up, but JW if i'm the only one.

no grinding sound for me. When it was really cold the valves were a bit more noisy but that's all. I did have the flashing AWC mode for a while till it warmed up. Also, after backing out of a parking stall and switching to drive the car did not shift. Like it was in neutral. I put it in park and then tried again and it was fine. This happened twice. Both times I was at the airport and I think it was quite a bit colder there than in Edmonton. Like in the -40s i think. Man I need to relocate!!!

even with the reflash, apparently some of the pumps still go bad for whatever reason: parts used (not just hydraulics but control unit as well?), manufacture date related i believe, but not sure. anyways, i had my reflash done in september as soon as it came out and i just had my pump replaced last week. the mode select would appear when i first started the car but as soon as i got moving, it would disappear and a service required light would appear. brought it in and the hydraulic unit apparently went bad and would not cycle at all so it was replaced. everything is back to normal since the pump was replaced.

To the original poster. That exact thing happened to me last week when it was very cold.... exact same thing. And everytime i turn the car on it pops up after about 3 secs. I had it in to the dealer this afternoon and they did the AWC reflash and told me it should be fine. As i was pulling out of the dealership it came on again! They told me they would call me in the morning and setup an appointment for diagnostics. So i head home then something different just happened. I turned on to the highway and started to speed up. put it in 2nd gear and the car jerked almost like it would if it were to stall. Then it made a whining noise when i accelerated. No idea..... I pulled over and the car is being towed to the dealership as we speak. Im pretty frustrated with this car right now.

Yup i agree, On top of it our mitsu service out here is complete ****. i would rate it one of the worst in canada. no joke. All i have ever purchased has been . After the new owner of the store took over it has swayed me to make my next buy an STI. (yep iam a dirty dirty traitor) Atleast their service guys know wtf they are doing and don't feed you bull****.

But i have to say the RA is probably one of the best DD's i have ever owned. The wifey will enjoy it after the new year/spring.

I'm about ready to trade mine in. I don't know if i'll own it much more then a year. I definately won't own it when the warranty is up, I sure as hell ain't replacing this tranny with my wallet.

I have to agree with the whole bad service issue. Although, the first time I took my Toyota truck in for a service (the vehicle I traded in for my Mitsu) they broke something.

I now consider Mitsu the Ford of Japanese vehicles.
