There are a lot of different ways to go about modding.

I am of the mind set that the car should be set up for best braking and handling before too much power is added. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, or something like that.

Anyway, my plan is something like this...

1. Brakes (Discs, Pads, Fluid, SS Lines = $1,000)
2. Lowering springs (Probably Eibach 1 inch drop = $200-$250)
3. Tires ($800-$1,000)
4. Transmission cooler ($500)
5. Performance intake/small battery kit ($625)
6. Boost pill/tune ($500)

That's about $4,000 without any real power adders, maybe +50whp, but the trade off is that the driving experience will be much better! I'm not really a straight line kinda guy, love the curves!

from ground fades.

at anyrate

ivey tune
intercooler
upper pipe
lower pipe
bov upgrade
high flow filter

those would be the mods that will keep it relatively quiet and give up 240 or so whp if the tune is good, and it should be from ivey.[/QUOTE]

those mods alone would be around 260 whp with a tune.

I don't know if I'd trust the stock BOV with anything over 23-24 psi. I'm sure it could hold it, but I'd rather just go with the EVO IX or X metal BOV.

lol... if the base dyno is 220 whp sure.

its its like ultimate, gst, and ams's base dynos, in the 200 range, it would be about 240.

i spike to 25 now on it, and i know it leaks.

Saying it can handle 28 blah blah blah is heresay. A metal upgrade is always worth it above stock boost.

Spiking I wouldn't concern myself with too much, but sustained boost over what the stock turbo is capable of (23-24 psi) is definitely worthy. But you are right, a metal upgrade is probably always going to be the best option regardless of mods.

And you can probably find people with EVOs selling their stock bov's for cheap. AMS charges 189$. I just bought one from on EVO owner for 75$. Well worth it if you ask me. Even if it doesn't do much, it's gotta be better than the plastic one

Sound Dampening Material

Now that I think about it, to some it might seem counter-productive but what about adding some sound dampening material to the car? If I remember correctly that was one of the things they changed on the 2010 RAs but I haven't heard of anyone adding anything to their 09.

I know I stated this already, but this is my DD so if I can offset some of the noise of the upgrades, I can take (some) weight from other places and adding HP to even out the power to weight ratio and then do more.

Opinions? If no one else has done this by the time I do (if I do it), I'll post some stuff up about it for everyone (install, pics, sound clips before and after, etc...)

I'm on the same boat as you. I want my RA to be quick, but not loud. So far i have an evo X oem intercooler, HKS drop in panel filter, HID's, Evo IX metal dv, and AME wheels.

I also plan on doing an ivey tune. Any aftermarket exhaust will drone on this car because of the auto tranny. Just keep the stock exhaust on there. After the tune, you should be happy, if u need more u can always upgrade to the evo X turbo, just keep the stock exhaust to keep things quiet...a high flow cat couldnt hurt.

I just ordered UR mini-muffler test pipe. Supposed to be the quietest option without restricting flow. There is a couple people with youtube videos of UR exhaust and it's not loud at all...which is the main reason I ended up going with the exhaust and uicp instead of a tune. I will do the tune in the summer. No sense in paying 400+ twice. I'll let you know how it goes.

i said i couldn't remember the exact amount it could handle and upgrading you bov is usuless unless you are boosting around where you are at, and above. But if you must upgrade your bov i would say the x1 or x is a good upgrade if your not upgrading the turbo

I agree. I'm not sure how much boost the EVO X turbo can produce, but that's about the max I would go on our cars (especially now, with the limitations of the tranny). I would think that an EVO X BOV would be good enough for the boost I'd be running off an EVO X turbo.
