Any dealership horror stories, voided warranties, etc

I know alot of you guys have modded your RAs, I am in the process of doing it right now. I am wondering if you guys have had problems at dealerships and what parts they bothered you about? I am due for my first service soon, would like to find a good mitsu dealer, but I move so much, I cant rely on just one.

you should ask you dealership first, some dealers allow certain mods ( bolt on mods) some don't. so consult the dealer that you bought your car from.

but, intake, exhaust, RRM lowering springs would do the kill =) IMO nasty sound, nasty stance =)

Me: ya biger intercooler, is that a problem?

So ya it deoends on the dealership, mine seems to be kool

Guy: no its fine just don't do any internal work or modify the turbo, basic bolt ons are fine with us

From my experience,

Service tech: Are those mud flaps?

Me: Yeah, they're Ralliarmor.

Service tech: The driver side rear flap looks kinda crooked, I'm gonna have to speak to my Manager about that, might have to void the drive train warran...

Me: No no no, I had them professionally installed, here's the paperwork. *Produces paperwork*

Service tech: Well...

Me: *Produces $20 bill*

Service tech: I guess that mud flap's straight enough, I'll let this one slide.

Just because a dealer "seems cool" with you having mods unfortunately means nothing. It's all fun and games until you actually have a warranty claim.

Too bad they can't just void your warranty for aftermarket parts. If they try, enlighten them about the Moss Act.

This has been beaten to death many, many times.

Yes we are protected by the law, however it is up to us to prove that the mods did not cause the failure, so unless you have a large cash flow to pay for a lawyer you are going to be out of luck if a dealer really wants to push the issue. And to top that off if you end up losing the fight you could be paying their lawyer fees as well.

That act isn't a wand that automagically makes them warranty a blown motor after someone stuffs 50psi into it. All it means is that they have to have a damn good reason to void your warranty.

So if you put on aftermarket headlights and all of a sudden your turbo blows, they can't deny you warranty. But if you change the intake, I'm sure one of their many many engineers and lawyers and engineers who are also lawyers, will find a way to tie that in with the failure of the turbo and deny you warranty.

Even if you are right, they can tie you up in so much litigation that it'll cost more time and money to fight it than to just eat the loss yourself.

The lesson is, stay stock or pay to play.

lol you sound like a brainwashed pupp no offense . There is no person in their right mind who will tell you an intake randomly caused a spike of 50 psi to blow your motor. I've got a nice handful of mods and my tranny is still being replaced under warranty. You're right in the sense that they have to prove the part caused the problem but where you're wrong is the court part. Mitsubishi would rather stay our of court. These big companies like to settle things. Yes it will be time consuming. Yes it will be an event. But it's all about how much you're willing to fight for. But i'm not here to fight with you or anyone else, just posting some information for the OP.

P.S. if you want to avoid any hassle do as the above poster said "stay stock"
