Tie Rod

What would make a tie rod go bad?? I don't drive that aggressively...
They said they replaced the tie rod when I had the accident 2 months ago but it already went bad... Would it be a bad part?? I don't get it..

My guess is that they didn't fix your car correctly the first time, and it is causing the premature wear to the tie rod.

Thanks.. It's a good thing my insurance has lifetime guarantee for all the repairs... Still annoying to go back and forth to the body shop...

sealed unit on our cars, no manual greasing required.

could be they forgot to tighten the retaining nut on the backside, or left out a cotter pin from the castleated(sp?) nut holding to the knuckle causing it to separate, or other parts misaligned as mentioned before causing premature wear, or they coulda just used a bum tie-rod when they replaced it the first time and the ball/socket joint was weak/damaged already. as long as theyre fixing it, dont worry. make sure they get oem parts from mitsu tho, a lot of shops like to make some extra money off insurance jobs by charging for oe parts and using aftermarket and pocketing the difference. hopefully not yours, but just sayin it does happen.

Ok thanks. The estimator did say that he was ordering from mitsubishi. They said it wasn't worn but it was loose. Couldn't figure out why cuz they replaced it the first time. Hopefully they'll get it right this time.
