Ive only got 1500 miles on the car so I'm hoping my fuel mileage will still get better. By using paddles and trying to stay in the sweet spots Ive been able to get my avg mpg gauge to go from 25.2 to 27.6 (40 minute trip on the freeway no traffic) and my total miles in 1 tank from about 250to 270.
In my case this only translates to my real/calculated avg MPG going from about 21.5 to 22.5 (1MPG increase)
Once i get a custom tune i should be able to get my avg MPG gauge up to 30-31 MPG on the freeway and my real/calculated MPG to about 24 (290-300 miles per tank)

Yes, we understand this is a turbo charged sports car and we shouldnd worry about MPG but not every trip in the car is a race, sometimes all your car see's is typical daily driving & there is nothing wrong with wanting to get the best possible MPG. Remember, out of boost this is just a 4cyl grocery getter so it SHOULD have good fuel economy.

One of the things Ive always loved about Corvettes is their fuel economy. They are such amazing performing cars but can still get 30 MPG. The C6 ZO6 is a BIG 427 cu. in. 7.0 ltr V8 making 505 hp that can still get 27-30 mpg. I think thats awesome!

I think the problem is that unless you have a boost gauge, you don't realize how even your "light throttle" acceleration is still hitting boost. Off-boost, yes, this is a 4cyl grocery getter. On-boost, you will get less than 5mpg (<- wild estimate)

Using my old 97 Audi A4 1.8t (lightly modded, with a tune) as an example, once i had the boost gauge and really grannyed it (staying in vacuum) I could get significantly better mileage while holding up traffic If I really stood on it, I could go through my 60+ L tank of gas in like 200kms (that was the first tank after I got it chipped, and did I ever stand on it! And that was with a 1.8L engine with the small BorgWarner K03 turbo and without a 5bar fuel pressure regulator).

On a more serious note, if you haven't owned a boosted car before, here's a tip -- one drive when the red mist hits you can negate a week's worth of near-hypermiling, though YMMV.

Krisko,
Just curious, what avg MPG have you actually observed in AP Economy mode?

I have a AP but have never used the economy mode as I always have too much fun running the 93 Stage 1 tune. This tune alone has provided a big improvement over stock performance on my car.

I have gotten 26 mpg a couple times with the AP when trying to stay out of boost. I might try the economy mode just to see what it will do.

2muchboost, please let me know what kind of tune you decide to go with. I was thinking of doing the same thing, but I am a bit worried about voiding my warranty. I had them throw in a 10 year 100k mile bumper to bumper warranty so the last thing I want to do is jeopardize that, but I'm tired of getting 19-20mpg!!!

Driving habits is what makes the biggest impact. Time the traffic lights, don't rush to a red light, just slow down and ease back. The best way to save gas is to avoid stopping the car dead at a traffic light as much as possible. This is especially easy at night, but daytime traffic might make it harder or impossible to do so safely. I also try to keep my TC-SST in normal mode, especially on the highway. I flick it on if I need more power, and turn it off as soon as the car is up to speed, but you'd save more gas to avoid doing that altogether. Personally, I only turn on the sport mode when I'm int he mood to drive... which has been a lot lately since I've only bought the car in June.

Also, make sure you air filter is fresh. If you're not installing a new cold air intake, at least make sure the current stock filter doesn't need to be changed.

Also, user Laza made a good point. I had a regular Lancer GT with All season tires fromt he dealer, and when I put on the winter tires I didn't have enough money to buy the summer tires for the first year, so I drove with winters all summer long. My computer said my full tank could do less than 700km even on a good highway run, but I got it up to 1000 once during a road trip to the mountains with the All Seasons. So I was looking forward to seeing how far up it would go with my new summer tires, but some dumb lady totaled my car 2 weeks after I installed the new rims and tires... so I can't give you a number.

the best highway MPG I got was 28.7 or 8.2l/100km. I was cruising 60-65 mph.
I have GST tune, K&N drop-in, lighter wheels (Evo Enkeis) and Borla exhaust.

I believe the audi gets either a 16.6 or 18.5 gallon tank depending on what sub-model.
The Audi has direct injection while the Ralliart still used port fuel injection. That is one reason the Audi does better on fuel.

+1000

also, has anyone tried adding meth and getting their car tuned for 87? sound like it would be pretty safe and save $0.20/gal feels pretty good even thou it would take a long time to save enough on gas to pay for the meth and tune lol

my ralliart with 62k miles got way better mileage after getting a basic re-flash (and a tuneup) about 3 more mpg's which i think a good deal for anyone looking for better mileage, plus (with the AMS pill) the re-flash really woke up the beast in my ride!

I would not consider it (MEK) until i knew for sure it would not deteriorate the seals/O-rings in the fuel system. You could save $100 dollars at the pump and pay ~$1000 to fix damage five years later...
