Clunk Noise

When I'm backing up, with the wheel turned (like out of a parking space or driveway) I hear this pretty loud clunk noise from what sounds like the wheel. It only does it 1 time, and it only happens when I'm backing up. it does not do when going forward. It also doesn't do it all the time, it seems kind of random because I can't replicate it on demand, but it does do it. any ideas?

is it that noise of ur gears or clutch setting into place. When i first put my car in motion especially after its warmed up not when cold, i get this noise that sounds like the clutchs are setting into place. i Can sometimes get them both backing up and going forward but i only get it upon my initial start up and drive off, after second gear i wont hear it anymore for the remainder of the drive. This may be what you are hearing but it seems more prominant in reverse if you are backing out alot and may be that you listen for it now almost expecting it. I may be wrong but this could be it. If this isnt it then one less thing to possibly be what you hear

before i back up i always put it in drive and move 1 inch forward because in any auto or semi auto tranny the gears never sit right when parked so you should always go front then go back. Next time if u want proof of this, just go back and look at ur center screen- the Reverse will start blinking which means its not in gear and then you will hear a big clunk into gear.

no, listen, its not the gear noise. i know what that is. its a a freakin clunk, it sounds like its coming from the wheel. its really not the trans. im familiar with that noise, its not it. im already moving when i hear the noise and it only happens when the wheel is turned. if i back up straight i dont ever hear it. only when the wheel is turned. it doesnt matter which direction either.

I get it too, when maneuvering in an out of parking spaces. Usually happens when i turn the wheel to lock or close to it. I only ever hear it at low speeds cause i never turn that wheel that far during normal driving conditions...

This is the ABS system performing a "system startup check". When it "clunks", that means the system is working!

Exactly. It's even mentioned in the RA owner's manual.

I think there's a specific speed at which it occurs, like 6 or 7km/h (forwards or backwards).
