Did an oil change today Castrol Edge

I did my first oil change on the RA since I have owned it. I used the noob oil change how to write up. It was actually really simple and the write up helped a lot.

So far it feels like Castrol Edge is a really good oil. Things feel nice and smooth. I used 5W30 blend and a K&N oil filter.

I wanted to see who else is using Castrol Edge and what do you guys think of it. My local auto parts store had 5 quarts of that and the K&N filter for 32.00! Normal price would of been 8 something for 1 quart and around 12 for the filter. So could have been around 52 or so.

Since you're using the Castrol, is it full synthetic? Cuz above mentioned, you say Blend. I would recommend using full synthetic. I am sure others on this board will say the same as well. I use the K&N filter as well. Also I have been using the Quaker State full synthetic and change around every 5K miles. It runs great and give little better performance for the money. I only pay about $20 for a 5 qt jug and $14 for the filter. I get the jug at Wal-Mart then the filter at Autozone. I would love to use the AMS Oil but some people cannot afford those things at the right moment. This goes the same for the Royal Purple. They are both good products.

I've only used either Castrol Edge and Mobil 1 for the last 8 or so oil changes.

So far the verdict is, Castrol Edge is quieter, esp between 3500-5000rpm, and gets 1-2mpg better. Don't know if it's mental or what but I've switched back and forth and I've noticed this twice already. Even my gf, who knows little about cars, noticed the change in engine noise. It's subtle but noticeable.

I use Mobil-1 and change every 7500 miles or so. I thought about putting in the Castrol stuff at my last change, but changed my mind at the last minute. I'll probably put it in come spring, if you guys think its quieter.

Sorry what I meant by the blend was referring to the 5W30 weight. The oil itself is fully synthetic.

Its great to hear that you guys have good luck with it as well. I would def reccommend it so far. Even though I need to drive it more I am happy with it.

I would like to go with AMS oil, Royal Purple, or even try Redline but they are pretty pricey. I will keep an eye on them but once i get on one oil I like to try and stay with that brand as long as I like it.

I currently have castrol edge 5 w30, I wanted to try if it's better than mobil 1 that I usually use, so far I'm 3,000 miles in and the car feels good, I'll change oil soon and I'll try mobil 1 again since it's on sale to see if I notice a diferrence.

How long do you guys go in between oil changes? I know it says you can go either 1 year or 15K on the bottle?

I do my oil changes about every 4000 miles, but I only drive my car on evenings and weekends, so it takes a while to put on that many miles....

I get mileage pretty fast so if I were to follow the 3,000 mile rule then I'd be changing oil every month and a half, so I do every 5,000 just enough to feel safe and economical.

I only drive on weekends and I put on ~18000 miles a year.

I'm changing oil between 3000-3500 mi since weekends are a mix of 70% highway and 30% romping.

Castrol edge is a better oil than mobil one. The refining process used in production is more thorough and prolonged as opposed to hydrocracking to artificially enhance the resiliency of the oil molecule. It sits in the same category as oils like amsoil, redline and eneos. Plus you can get it in the 5qt container at wallmart. Tough to beat.

After the first oil change i have been using:

Fuchs TITAN GT1 5W-40 synthetic engine oil.

It is the smoothest oil on the market.

I have used mobile 1(original oil and castrol). There is no comparison

that TITAN GT1 is by far smoother.
