Fixed my boost leak and changed out t-case oil and rear diff over the weekend. Took it out for a spin to test the fixed leak....car ran fine and while I was driving back heard a boom and Now im getting no boost...and engine is making an odd knocking noise...car doesnt accelerate very hard at all and its hard to get it above 3k rpm...taking into the dealer tomorrow. Any ideas? Car isnt blowing any smoke out or anything....wierd.

Did you forget to tighten your oil filter

 

hahah nope, actually while I was down there changing out the t-case oil I checked my oil filter and drain nut for the motor oil...all was well. Im thinkin a rod too...I dont abuse the car or get on it all that much though. The guy who owned the car before me did some pretty big mods to it and put it back to stock when he traded it in. Had my warranty restricted when I brought it in for the first fix...but its still warrantied and I also have a backup service plan..100 deductable from GM (i bought it from a GM dealer). But the car is warrantied through them as-is so I shouldnt have a problem getting this fixed under coverage...only problem would be time it will be down. Also found out we do not have a dipstick for the tranny......unless im overlooking it.

naah i had the bumper pulled off, and the rattle/knocking noise from the engine is scary. I checked/tightened all IC piping while I had everything off...It is definately the engine im assuming. I wouldnt think that an IC pipe would cause the engine to rattle/knock..also..it only rattles/knocks in DRIVE and not in Park revving....really odd. Perhaps a bad exhaust leak, maybe manifold cracked? The car still runs just makes that awful knock/rattle noise and no boost.
another thing to note - had the turbo replaced when i bought the car. so the turbo has about 3 or 4k miles on it only.

 

Sux to hear that. Judging by the avatar did you buy it with an Evo X kit on there? That person might have been a member on this forum.

yeah...a member of this forum owned the car previously. had it put back to stock and the dealer gave me a restricted warranty. Upon some further investigation Im thinking it is an exhaust problem rather than a motor problem...possible huge crack in the mani? Im taking it to a performance shop here in KC and im going to let them hear it and see what they think...because im only hearing that noise while in DRIVE not in park revving...im thinking the exhaust mani might be cracked or something...and its got a massive leak? Could that give me ZERO boost? I doubt something like the downpipe came loose...but its sounding like an epic exhaust fail

-also what is making me lean more towards and exhaust issue is that there is no CEL...i would HOPE that if i throw a rod it would throw a CEL as well.

I would think it might be the manny the guy before u had an evo x turbo on it.

 

yeah I was thinking more of the mani route now. The car isnt throwing any CEL (which i hope it would if a rod was thrown). Also not making the knocking/rattle noise when in PARK and revving. Only when in drive. Also vac is great like normal, but car is stalling when in low RPMs. Im going to pull off the heat shield and take a look...its snowing like crazy outside. Anyone have any other ideas? Great vac, no boost, rattle/knocking noise when in drive accelerating, no CEL?

 

ralliart back up! Did more investigation today in the freezing cold and snow...found the big 3" pipe going from intake mani to piping was blown off down low...fixed her up and now runs fine again. Took her out in the snow for some fun too Thanks guys for all the help, I can always count on this forum to throw out ideas to follow up on! You guys are great!
