Exclamation Manual is not standard

Back in the day people would refer to a manual transmissions as the standard transmission. If you didn't want to spend extra money on an automatic then you would get the standard transmission provided by the manufacture. Today people still refer to manuals as standards. The standard transmission in a Ralliart is a TC-SST. The standard transmission in a Galant is an AUTOMATIC. Both of which are standard transmissions provided by Mitsubishi but not referred to as standards.

I know this is just nit picking but I think this has been overlooked for way to long.

old habits die hard, but yes most of the cars sold today come with an automatic as standard, and its been like this for almost 2 decades mainly because the general public hate to shift gears

Yeah, its the same reason why everyone keeps calling the parking brake an emergency brake. Old habits die hard.

20 years from now we will be telling our kids about how daddy used to shift his own gears. Now i know how people feel when they talk about their carborator- having sports cars from back in the day

LOL

Well until cars become like the ones in "Minority Report" and "IRobot" and racing becomes like the game WipeOut I don't think anything is going to change soon.

Its really at matter symatics... a standard transmision was one that you had to shift--not an automatic--by definition.. now it sounds like this was way before your time---so NP. This is when an automatic was the option. 50's-60's Today I can see your point--but you need to dig a little further back to understand why--so folks call a std trans and a manual trans the same thing. not what the std offering is for a car.. Not digging on you--just letting you know.

I guess I'm not understanding this post. Is this a reiteration or am I missing something?

You blow your nose into a ____ (Kleenex?, no... a tissue). You cover your cut with a ______ (Band-Aid? no...an adhesive bandage). Some things just stick man, your vent won't change the will of the world, haha!

Hey! It can be used in emergencies too. And, personally, I never use it to brake while parking... I wait until I'm stopped and out of gear before I apply it. I guess it should be called a "parked" brake.

Very good points. LOL
Still, someone has to start somewhere or it really will never change. I just felt compelled to post something to make people more aware. If it enlightens one person my job was successful. LMAO

I still refer to manual as standard and I'm 24. I do because I see it as essential but that's just me. Changing the paradigm in this case may mean the extinction of rowing the gears yourself.

An additional example to the above explanations is the use of the term "standard lens" in photography which refers to a 50mm on old 35mm film. Currently there are numerous sizes for digital sensors but the 50 is still considered the standard lens even tho it's really a 75mm on an APS-c sensor after 1.5x zoom conversion.

In short sometimes your OCD will go unheard... I'd like the drivers in California to stop driving like retards... But I'm 24 so what do I know about driving. Lol have a good day, all.

Ugh. Now OCD is effecting my posts. Sorry guys! LOL

I know there are a select few that know better and still make the mistake but it doesn't make it right.
As crazy as it may sound, I think I might have made a difference to some and that is all I was trying to accomplish. Have a great day and enjoy your standard transmissions!

Good post!
On the Toyota SR5 the automatic is standard and a manual was only available as an expensive option.

So the automatic was the standard transmission and the manual was not
