Helping out a fellow Lancer Owner

So, last night we got a big snow storm in my area, and this morning while I'm digging out I see the guy in my neighborhood who owns a Lancer GTS coming up the snow covered road trying to get to work(I assume).

Our street is relatively level(maybe only a 5% grade), and I stood there dumbfounded with my jaw hanging down as I watch this guy spinning his tires and getting stuck on such a very slight upslope(the streets had even been plowed, so the snow wasn't very deep on the road itself).

Finally, when I couldn't bear to watch anymore, I walked down the street and asked if he wanted a push, to which he didn't hesitate to reply "YES PLEASE". So, I proceeded to get behind the car and push until he got up enough speed that he was off and running by himself.

Anyway, the whole thing just kind of amazed me a little because from the outside the car looks almost EXACTLY like my Ralliart(he has the same rims and rear spoiler etc.), but yet his car was getting stuck on a basically flat road that my Ralliart would have LAUGHED AT and blasted through like it was dry pavement. Gotta say that on days like this I LOVE my all-wheel drive, and look alikes are just that, mere imitations of our Ralliart package!

P.S. - that same guy rang my doorbell tonight about an hour ago and thanked me for all my help this morning and said that he worked at the local Chipotle restaurant and he would "hook me up" if I ever wanted to come by for some food....I might take him up on that!!

Slee,
Yeah we got a lot of that same storm down in my area just South of DC in Northern VA as well.

I agree, the AWD makes a huge difference and these cars are still very useful, even with some snow on the road.

Frankly I hate the stock tires in the snow, so on my long list of "to do's" I will have to eventually decide what will replace the Yokos. Cheers,

Yeah, the stock tires are "Summer Only", so they don't do you any favors in this kind of weather. I blew out two of stock tires last summer and replaced them with high performance all-season tires. So, now I have the 2 all-season tires on the front wheels, and the 2 OEM summer-only tires on the rear wheels, which isn't ideal but it's better than it was!

You should suggest, Slee, to your neighbor to pick up some snow tires, at least all seasons. He won't have any trouble in the snow. Try to sell him on the idea.

The lancer GTS has an all season tire. Very poor ratings across the board but none the less all seasons are on the GTS. Practically any other tire would be better.

Not to burst your bubble, but the Ralliart is based off the GTS not the other way around.

Unless you paid cash money for your car why didn't you roll the cost of snow tires & steel wheels into your financing?

You're not bursting my bubble at all. In fact, using that very same logic, it would stand to reason then that the Evo is based on the Ralliart!!!

It's funny that you used that terminology, because my full time job is actually in SALES! So, I think I can make that happen...

Well to tell you the truth, I did not test drive the car in the snow...

Amazing as it may seem, the poor grip these tires have in snow actually came as a bit of a surprise to me.

Having owned 12 different 4 wheel drive vehicles, the first time I drove the RA in snow it was like WTF .

I immediately drove the car home, parked it, cleaned the crap off my pants and the driver's seat, and then fired up my F250 diesel Superduty 4x4 Ford.

I love driving the RA, but until I change the tires, when there is snow on the roads, it will stay parked as the big Ford 4x4 handles snow about as good as any vehicle made.
