Dealership orders part from Japan
I'm hearing a rattling sound coming from my engine, so I take it to the dealership. Now they are telling me the problem is something loose between the engine and tranny(not sure what its called...so they have to order the part from Japan. I then ask how long this will take...the service manager says it typically takes 2 weeks, but in this case it could take 3-4 weeks maybe 1 month, maybe even 2 months.
I remember how easy it was to take my 2008 Ford F-150 to the dealership and they have all the parts in stock. This is so frustrating....

Wow, having a tough time understanding just-in-time inventory down there in Dallas eh?
Hate to burst your macro bubble but this pesky 9.0 earthquake has shut down US factories and has global implications.

I will refrain from posting further links as i'm not trying to be insulting. Just point out that a natural disaster of this magnitude in a 1st world country has a ripple effect around the globe, and not just with Mitsubishi heavy industries.

I actually ordered a part from Japan 2 days before the Quake and I got it the other day (it didnt ship till after). So some stuff is still shipping just depends on what part of the country its coming from.
Mitsubishi and Nissan both have parts factories online, but they have both suspended vehicle production. Toyota, Honda and Subaru have suspended both parts and vehicle production. So good news! You may get your part sooner rather than later.
However, I'd feel slightly bad about it because the ship carrying the parts will be taking up valuable dock space and loading time that could be used for bringing in aid.

Well the rattle is at idle and at 3000 rpm. The dealership called me today and they are saying it is a Dampner. I think its between the engine and tranny.
i made them record this on paper just in case something did happen, but they assured me it was ok.
I had a rattle at idle but only in park. The dealer had my car for 3 1/2 weeks waiting for the part and having to do the labor. They called it a drive lug and it was between the flywheel and input shaft is what they told me.
