We all know it's not accurate over a full tank. Do the old school math method and you will see you aren't truly getting that mileage.

This was on E85, after doing the actual math it was actually 21mpg:

Stop quoting the dashboard HID when stating your MPG.
^^^^ this

my info screen says 32MPG regularly when i drive 25 miles to work @72MPH but it's literally all down hill

My eco is usually around 21 - 23 MPG for full tank averages. Mixed driving hwy, city, up mountain and down mountain w/ the occasional bursts of acceleration to keep things interesting

That's why you're getting 32mpg

I did. I did the math. The mileage was more or less accurate. I even filled up the tank in Fayetteville and again when getting back to Durham, almost immediately. The difference was almost EXACTLY 3 gallons. That equates to ABOUT 31 or so MPG. The speed limit is also 70 mph, and I tend to drive 5 miles above the speed limit. I have no reason to believe that the HID was incorrect. The trip computer was reset after the tune and checked after arriving in Durham.

Believe what you want, but I get good mileage. A lot of it is how you drive, though. I remember watching an episode of Top Gear in which Hammond, May, and Clarkson all drove from France back to England on a single tank of gas. E85 is a different story, though.

I may not be a good indicator of expected MPG, because I have only measured the full tank average a handful of times. In that case, Bryan is right. I only ever measure consumption when traveling back and forth from school (gives me something to do). It is an 8 hour trip. When the traffic backs up, and I have to slow down, which is the norm, I get ABOUT 25 MPG over the course of the tank. I base that on how much gas the car actually takes when I fill up, but the tank does have a nasty habit of clicking the pump off prematurely. I have to hold the freaking nozzle in just the right spot, or it doesn't work. This is exacerbated in the winter.

Usually get around 21-23mpg with city driving (light traffic)
27-29mpg on highway.

And in heavy traffic? I'm counting my pennies at that point.

22mpg city/hwy mix.

The RA should/will get better hwy milage than the EVO solely because of the 5th and 6th gear ratios.

I watch the 'HID' on my 21 mile commute to track my mileage and I watch the average go from the high teens at the start to around 25/26 when I get to work. Same thing on the way home. But my 'real' mpg based on trip odometer/gallons purchased is only 22.37 after 6 fill-ups. So yeah, I think the car's mpg computer is a little on the optimistic side.

I am looking into going the GTS or Cobb tune rout. I have a long drive to work so MPG is a big deal and will factor into my discussion. Can anyone report on the MPG gains after tuning with each of these. I know Cobb has an Eco tune also but I have heard it doesn't make much difference over the stage 1.

Here's when I started out on my trip from Rockford to Chicago:

And as I neared the exit ramp ~70 miles later:

Not bad for a 12 second car on the highway eh?

Full-tank mixed driving, including some "spirited" driving, shows around 25 on average, so I'm very pleased personally.

Guys, you do know the HUD is a average right? You cannot use that to gauge short 70 mile trips like that.

I saw 35mpg on my HUD, on E85, for 60 miles. Does that mean I get 35mpg on E85? No.

I'm going to drive down a hill, off the gas and reset the HUD MPG gauge at the beginning and show you guys I get 55mpg.

That would be hella tight yO!

Seriously, stop posting up HUD MPG averages over short distances and start doing the real full tank average math.

Like this:

207.5 miles driven, on 11.331 gallons of E85 = 18.31mpg

K thanx bye.
