Quantity of Plasti Dip Required

Hey everyone,

To anyone who's Plasti-dipped their rims/painted the chrome trim around the car:

How many cans did you require? It seems the aerosol is the easiest way to go...

I'm roughly guessing it would be about 5-6 cans total for the above.

Just wanted to double check with everyone.

DO NOT buy the can - get the aerosol only.

i expect one can is sufficient for the trim.

For wheels and trim you'll need 2. Unless your planning on doing a bunch of coats then you'll need 3.

But strongly consider powder coat for the wheels.

Powder coating would be great but it's about $600-$800 with prep, etc...

Plasti Dip is like $50 for a case.

I noticed on my '11 Sportback Ralliart, no chrome trim around the windows! Only the front to do.

I found a supplier in Canada and I have to order (1) case which is (6) cans. I'll do my rims and whatever else.

Thanks everyone.

No, it doesn't weight enough...I've never heard of anyone mentioning that. Also, if it's applied equally, it should create any imbalance.

One can of aerosol was enough to do my ring twice and all of my window trim once.

Since we are on the plastic dip subject, do you guys remove the chrome trim of just mask it off?

Is it just held in by clips?

To properly remove the trim ring you have to take the front end off. Easy, but time-consuming (see the how-to). I think the time to mask would still be less/easier. But i have not done either - so i too, eagerly await the answer

If you're not familiar with removing the bumper, then masking it off and spraying directly on the car will be faster.

After you've had the bumper on and off a couple times, it goes fast. If you spray the ring off the car, you won't miss any spots due to poor masking.
