Yikes.....

Ok, so I have another thread dealing with shutter issues, but i doubt these are related....who knows though

Well this evening it snowed pretty hard and while i was driving home after about an hour i came to a stop light and my car LITERALLY dropped to 100rpm and my whole car almost stalled. It would repeatedly drop and bounce back to 700ish rpm while i was stopped at the light. I saw i needed gas, but this has never happened before.

I went directly to the gas station after this happened again at 3 other stop lights.

I filled right up and the problem seemed to be solved. I went for a little drive before returning home and no problems, took into the garage and reved it high, no problems...could water have gotten into the intake, could the gas gauge have been off and i had almost no gas?

Note the car would not let me rev higher than 3000 rpm while i was having this issues at the stop lights and it was the first MAJOR snowfall

Probably running low on gas and the fuel pump was having problems.

I notice mine does this when I am refueling with less than 3/4ths a tank while the car's running. The gas being stirred up in the tank while the fuel pump is going screws with it.

is this the first year you had that tune with your car? Just wondering if it has anything to do with cold weather?

All signs point to fuel starvation, in this case. Especially since it hasn't happened again after a fill-up, I'd chalk it up to that and be done with it.

The 3k rpm limit while at a standstill and/or pressing on the brake pedal (that's what it sounds like you are describing) is completely normal.

I believe in the manual it states that when the fuel light is on the car will not rev past 3k rpm...and its never good to run any car that low on fuel. I always fill up when I get that last bar on the gauge.

How cold outside?

I am thinking fuel line freezing. Container of 'Dry Gas' through the tank should help prevent it in the future.

As long as he's buying gas from a big-brand station, there should be enough additives in there that negate any benefits of an additional anti-gel additive.

Well usually in winter, you wanna keep the tank topped off. The reason being is that the tank can fill up with moisture and condensation if you keep the tank empty alot. Never let it go below half during winters. Keep it topped and you wont have to worry about water being burned in the combustion.

or your fuel filter needs to be changed. same thing happened to a friends car.
