Question Custom nose upgade? (not what you may think)

So i was on ebay looking and stumbled across this.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2008-2009-20...909c6c&vxp=mtr

Im not sure what to think of it. Is it awesome now that we can get more flow to the FM or does it look too fake? I mean yeah it looks like the X but hey WE NEED MORE FLOW!!! Whats y'alls opinion on this?

id figure out a way to mount it better than just double sided tape, but if you could make it functional? yeah it would be great..

That eBay ad is very misleading. The RA has a foam piece and a crash-bar in-between the bumper skin and the space where the intercooler would be. You will need to also trim the foam and cut holes in the crash-bar/bumper support beam. MachV has a billet piece that gives you a similar look. They have pics of what's actually involved in the install too.

The Ebay one is for decoration only (but look hawt! Me likee!)

From an engineering standpoint - i can't say the effort to make the front end actual EVO-like with holes (other link, above) is worth it.

99% of owners don't drive anywhere near the speeds needed to make the front nostrils worth it. I don't see why people are so focused on it

Why do you say that? I mean the front nose was designed to bring more air to cool down the intercooler.

At low speeds the amount of airflow that is going to be passing through those two slots is minimal. Personally, I'd like to have the two curved pieces on the lower part of the front EvoX bumper. Those look like they would guide a good amount of air into the IC from the sides.

This isn't for an RA either way. Scorpion has a different one for the RA. From my understanding the shape/size is different from a base lancer.

More than enough air 'backs up' and fills the cavity (area of high pressure) so another 'vent' does not do much...

So then why do the X's have them if this is true?

Yeah... i wonder about that too. It 'may' be aesthetic only - or based in computational flow dynamics... [shrug]

Google the Avanti (car from the 60's) - it had NO grill opening and the public rejected it because 'it would overheat' (but none ever did - it is about perception

Good question for the EVO Xers... You could block it and measure FMIC input and putput temps for the delta in the temperature drop (change in efficiency)...

because racecar

seriously. the X is built as a race car - the RA just has racecar parts in it.

just use a quality intake (enclosed CAI) and good intercooler core and you'll be fine. cutting holes in the bumper and crash beam are not worth it
