Just ordered new engine!!

A couple months ago I blew the engine in my 09 ralliart. I recently found a really cheap stock evo x motor and ordered it. My question is if i should order cams (if so what kind) or high performance pistons (if so what kind). The reason it blew last time was cause a bad tune, running way too lean. Now the shop im gonna go to I trust to do a way better job tuning. Opinions please

Is your car at Spec-Ops? I remember seeing a TB RA in their lot the past few times I have been there.

The best deal that I have seen on internals is from Assault-Tech. They have a thread in the "Evo X Vendor F/S" forum. You don't need camshafts. Just upgrade the turbocharger.

Yes that was my car up there...And yea I trust Matt and the crew up there to do a better job than my last tuner. I was thinking internals also but I want to lower my 1/4 mile drag. I would like to see low 12s this summer...any sugguestions on turbo set-up??

I don't own a X, or an RA, so go ahead and take this with a grain of salt:

Why not install the motor first and see how you like it? Seems to me that you'd be better informed about what to address with that motor and your current mods list after you've had some time behind the wheel to cook up an upgrade path that suits your needs.

You'll have a new tuner and they may be able to safely extract more power out of the car for you. You have a pretty healthy mods list as it is. It could be running just the way you want after its all setup and running proper. Did you have issues with how it was running before it blew?

Sounds like good advice to me

It is very good advise but before the motor blew i wanted more power. I want to make at least 350awhp. I was running right about 300 and 12.6-12.8s depending on the location of the track. My goal (for now) is low 12s. I would love to get a built motor but my budget right now is tight.

Help me out here - again, I know very little about your platform. The little I do know suggests to me that at sea level, you could probably make those numbers (350awhp) with those mods. Is the TCSST up to it? I'd think that would be the limiting factor, and going with a bigger turbo just underscores that even more. What do those tranny's hold before they start to give up?

Also, there are more ways to skin that cat. you've got what looks like a healthy mod list. You may be able to get moving a fair deal quicker with some weight saving mods. Either way, good luck with your project, sir!

Yea the trans on the CVTs are kinda weak...ive heard a couple guys on here that are holding 350tq with no problems but so far everyone is saying around 320 is the safe limit

The key is to have a competent tuner. You have an excellent team of guys working on the car up there at Spec-Ops. Freddie, Jason, and Matt are some of the best tuners and hardest workers in the business. That Josh guy...not so much...but everyone else is fine.

(Just kidding, Josh)

As misinformed as my advice may be, I'm sticking with it. I'd hold off until the new guys are done with the car. I'm guess they could get you the numbers you are looking for. If your transmission is nearing its ceiling, I think you're better served with a turbo that's spooling up quickly and still delivering for you. Go too much bigger and you'll still be at the ceiling with the trans and not seeing peak boost, and slower spool. If you're still unhappy, my guess is they can give you some great suggestions too.

Plus, you can save a little $$ this way at least for now.

You are seriously mistaken if you think you have a CVT in your car. VASTLY different transmission.
And yes, as NFS mentioned it's all in the tune; right now I'm pushing ~350wtq and track the car monthly (not holding back in the slightest).
Sit down with your shop and list out your goals; odds are you aren't the first one they have ever done

SST holding 350 is also a rough estimation and varies depending on type of dyno.

With the amount of stuff that they already know, Spec-Ops will sort you out. If you want to pull the trigger on the Garrett 3076R, Let me know. Matt and I need to talk at some point.
