To Cobb or not to Cobb

Hi all!

A couple of questions I recently leased a 2012 Lancer Ralliart which I am going to keep after my lease is up. So far I have an intake, custom exhaust (kokoback), an agency power BOV. I purchased a used turbo xs downpipe and a turbo xs cat pipe, not yet installed. My question is should I buy a Cobb access port now? To keep my warranty I was told I could revert back to stock ecu with a Cobb. Anyways, am I going the right direction? Should I buy other things like a inter cooler top pipe and bottom pipe or keep that stock? I eventually want to do what I keep reading (Evo x turbo, and other Evo X stuff I don't know like the Lpcm or uicp or something like that). What I'm trying to do pretty much is try to get the more expensive stuff out of the way like the $600 Cobb tuner and work my way down like rims, springs, etc last. Hopefully someone can lead me to the right direction. Thank you for your time and patience.

Yes. In your situation the investment is worth it. Especially due to the intake and exhaust mods already installed. You run the real risk of running lean at WOT. Bad.

From my understanding Youre safe with IC U/L Pipe, drop in filter, Axleback exhaust.. anything else and you will need a tune.

Someone chime in if Im wrong...

Thank you very much, and im sorry to ask a dumb question, what does WOT mean? Also is running lean the same as running rich? Reason being I'm back firing?

Is Getting a IC U/L pipe just for cosmetics? Or does it really do something vs. the stock?

WOT means "wide open throttle". Rich means "more fuel". Lean means "less fuel". Lean can also lead on to "buy a new engine".

Don't drive the car hard if it is backfiring, has mods and is still on factory tune.

Cheers,

Rich

Thank you very much for clearing everything up for me. Does it matter when it backfires? It backfires whenever it goes from 3rd gear to 2nd. Or if I shift pass 3k on 1st

You can get the same type of back fire with a rich set up. My ra pops all the time.

For others, When you give it throttle to 3k rpm then release the throttle quick, do you get a pop in the exhaust? (ie. backfire?) That's normal?

Yes a bigger Intercooler with allow more volume of air to be cooled and the stock RA IC pipes are rubber which expand when heated so changing those out to aluminium will increase air flow and throttle response...

The inter cooler I'm am getting later on next year. I saw a deal for inter cooler top and bottom pipe, which I was thinking of getting. If stock will expand, won't it be better staying stock vs. aluminum?

Ya I get that also, I think it's normal. From what everyone is saying it sounds normal. But not to sure...

Expanding means you will lose pressure and get worse throttle response, getting an aluminum pipe is well worth it

Are there any other access ports you guys would recommend instead of COBB? And why?
