What to do next? a few questions.

Hello all!

This week I finally had to put the plates on my car (past the 90 day mark of having no plates) I also switched out the FMIC, LICP, UICP, and BOV for OEM Evo X ones.

GST maps are unavailable for the 2013 yet, but have a turbo pill and tactrix cable ready.

Now I'm sitting here wondering what to do next?

Air intake systems are kinda expensive, choices are few and it would seem most require a tune? Was considering a K&H drop in filter but will that do anything other than make more noise?

Any other suggestions?

A drop-in filter will give you a small HP increase although an added benefit would be the ability to clean them as opposed to replacing them. Our cats are the most restrictive part of the exhaust system and the cheapest to replace. I would start there.

You're in Costa Mesa, CA? If you want a good solid tune and some exhaust for sure then go see Mike W @ Road Race Engineering in Santa Fe Springs. He just bought a 2013 Ralliart also and I'm sure it's already tuned.

Also for some local contacts get yourself on www.SoCalEvo.net. There's a few Ralliart guys on there that know the in's and out's of this car.

Thanks Otto, is it the case that I can change that and not require a tune? Am I mistaken that a drastic change in Air Intake or Exhaust should be accompanied by a tune?

Yeah I hear nothing but good things about RRE, I had hoped to avoid a full blown tune till closer to the cars one year anniversary when I'll most likely take it in for them to swap out the turbo. Till then I'm just looking into "Bang-for-your-buck" type bolt on or simple upgrades.

Almost bought the MR this time, but it didn't seem worth the extra $10k and much more expensive insurance. Plus the Recaro seats, IMHO, are fugly.

Guess its time for hookers and blow!

I wouldn't remove the stock cat unless you plan on tuning. It will most likely pop an SES light because of the O2 sensor reading incorrectly.

Right now, I'm DD'ing my Ralliart and it's got basically all your mods with a K&N drop in and a GST Basemap altered a little by myself. Less restrictive downpipe helped with turbo spool a bit but nothing major.

You should contact Richardjh if you'd like to do anything about a 2013 basemap. I think he's taken over the project on here. First steps he's probably going to ask for is to pull your stock ROM and send it to him or something. Don't know if the 2013 is going to need different definitions, but it's possible.

Hello again, I've emailed out the stock ROM image, I imagine others have to also. Rich explained in the GST thread that it is a long two day process that sounds exhausting. I've made myself available to him on anything else he might need.

Hmm I guess I could get further ready for tuning and start looking into a wideband. I'm leaning towards the Innovate LC-1...

A fine choice.

Zeitronix is good too. Can pick them up from RRE for like 279 or something.

$$$$$ talks. Try offering Rich a Paypal donation to do a 2013 GST basemap for you

Both cat and drop-in does not need a tune. A HFC or better yet a cat delete will give you better gains like I said. True it will most Likely blow a CEL BUT there are many ways of fixing this. It is possible to turn off the 2nd O2 sensor. Also look up "sparkplug antifouler" Both will accomplish the CEL.

Once you flash your car it's a whole new ball game and you need to be more aware of what you adding to the car. For right now though. Your safe. Better Get a WB. LC-1 gets my vote.

Honest truth??
Get an evo IX bpv and a tune from Mike at RRE. Will cost less than an exhaust or whatever you are thinking of at this point, and will maximize "bang-for-buck".
Then in 6 months you can jump on the "pipe"

He would defiantly get something from me, he hasn't asked and I haven't offered. Although I did manage to **** him off for offering to help and pay for definitions. Since then I figured my best course was to shut up and be patient. If I can't do that then its off to RRE

Not at all a dis on Rich, but he's essentially working on the project for pretty much bread crumbs of whoever donates to him for the project.

Your best bet honestly is to just go see Mike at RRE. Ask him for the CraZie Bone-toof gold chainz gangsta OG triple OG discount. Say it just like that too.
