Cobb vs tatrix

Hi all

first off sorry if there is a thread for this, I tried searching for this but cannot find it anywhere.

I am asking this specifically for the Ralliarts.

which is better?

Pros/cons?

I know the tatrix you need to know more of the source stuff.
COBB is all gui. I seen it in action but people give me mix feelings on it.

one main question is about the gages on the COBB.
When it shows boost and AFR for example are they accurate?
I was told by one person no. then an other yes. and an other that said why wouldn't it be accurate it uses the built in sensons of the car!!

One guy says that COBB is a wast of # and overheats???
And that you can't really do much cause they don't have alot of maps and alot of tuners don't use the cobb.

If i get a tuner to tune my car with Tatrix can i still use my cobb to log and see gauges?

ANY information to help make a decision is welcome!!

I think this could be a good thread.

Again if this already exist please point me to the thread.

Thanks all

The following is only my opinion based on my experience with the Cobb AP. As the saying goes, YMMV.

Pros
. simple to use (no downloading xml files, creating of config files for logging, etc)
. convenient AP tool that contains a display (no computer required like w/ Tactrix)

Cons
. no support for 2013 RA
. limited # of maps available (no boost pill support, and limited combinations of exhaust, intakes, etc.)

To the best of my knowledge, Tactrix and Cobb are completely incompatible and no data can be share between the two products. As for overheating with Cobb, I did not notice that using both their stage 1 and stage 2 93 octane tunes for almost a year.

I data logged for an hour or so many times with the Cobb AP and never had it overheat.

what maps are available for it?

all I have now on my 2011 RA is a boost pill, UICP,Evo x intercooler and x BPV

I see the biggest benefit of going with Cobb being the AccessPort tool itself. Cobb does have some handy maps like valet mode and anti-theft mode, but as I mentioned earlier, Cobb do not support a boost pill in any of their maps.

Here is a link to their map database for the RA:
http://www.cobbtuning.com/Mitsubishi...liart_Map_Grid

If you go with the AMS stage 0 package, you get the AMS boost pill and a map AMS developed to work with the Cobb AP:
http://www.amsperformance.com/cart/A...k-Stage-0.html

Finally, if you want to get into customizing maps, Cobb has free AccessTuner software:

As I had mentioned, AMS offers a package that uses the Cobb AP and a boost pill.

From what I have seen, Cobb themselves don't have a map on their website that supports the boost pill. Do you see a map on their site that supports a boost pill? I can only go by what is posted on their website, and I am not a representative of Cobb.

If your buddy has a Cobb AP v2 and a boost pill, why don't you just ask him where he got his map from?
If he has a link to a map on Cobb's site that supports a boost pill, share the URL. I don't own a Cobb AP anymore and no longer participate in their forums.

As nobody else has bothered to reply to your questions in this thread, I took the time and answered to the best of my knowledge.

Obviously he either paid AMS or somebody else a few hundred dollars for a custom boost pill map.

They don't even have forums anymore. I guess over a year of no forum support and posts from increasingly pissed off AP owners persuaded them to stick to other ways of dealing with their customers.

Hi, ,, Cobb doesn't support a boost pill map. I think your friend is running a custom

tuned map which was flashed into his ECU with COBB.

The AMS has a base map for COBB AP and you can ask them to do adjustments specially to your car. Thats what I did. Also, I believe there are e-tuners that require you to do data log using your COBB, then they will make some adjustments to your map and you flash it in again with COBB AP.

The reason that I didn't go for "GST base map flash"is that they are for universal set ups,, I prefer my car is running a map that is specially adjusted for my set ups and my car. ..

Also, Cobb is more convinient and GST base flash is free

this does seem like a great tread, for someone like us. I too am on the fence between the too, but sadly I own a 2013 Ralliart and no Cobb for me yet...If anyone know of anyone or them selves that lives close to a Cobb loaction they are trying to find people with 2013 ralliarts for testing. The boost reading on my AP when I had a wrx was almost identical to my boost gauge. I never check the a/f ratio though.

Well I just pre-ordered my COBB V3. Guess i will be the guinnypig :P

I asked my buddy with the V2 with his RA with a boost pill and he said he is just using the COBB map with no boost pill and he says he is having no issues.

I dunno if i want to take the chance lol

Lightbulb Good luck!

The Cobb AP is just a cheap way of tuning your car in order to get minimal hp gains vs the Tatrix which gives you a wider and specific details on tuning your car. Never the less, if you don't have any knowledge on tuning cars and/or want to get maximum hp gains on your car; I strongly suggest you take your car to get tune by a professional using an open flash! Again, good luck with Cobb AP.

Hopefully this isn't far off topic but does anyone know where I can still buy a GST boostpill? Or is the AMS one the same?
