Bad morning - Paint touch up help
Bad morning - Paint touch up help
Woke up this morning well rested, had a good breakfast, left a few minutes early for work, then promptly backed into my moth-in-laws car. (She spent the night to help the wife today)
Lucky she has a Dodge Nitro with the black plastic bumper so no damage. I was not as fortunate. I ended up with some paint chipping and cracking (lucky not cracked bumper).
Suggestions on alternitives to the body shop? Never painted like this before but willing to give it a try since its not huge and not in a highly visible area (near licens plate).
Cant seam to get into my imageshack account so the pic is attached.

Bought some paint from them before, just recently sprayed my hood with their product. Color is a very, very close match, flake is close, but not 100%. Either way, prices are great, and the product is good, I highly recommend them.
Take the paint to the edge on the left, and blend out on the right where the plate is going to hide it anyways.

Too big of a area to just use touch up paint. Get a can of paint and can of clear coat from www.paintscratch.com. You will have to send the are down and than pain it. If you take your time it will come out perfect!

Yeah, touch up is going to look awful. The other option is to pull the bumper and drop it off at the body shop. A pro job, off the car, should only be about $150.
Best thing to do, rather than buying paint online, go to your local body paint and supply store. They will be able to match your paint identically since they mix it to your particular "variant". Not all cars that are painted the same color from the factory are the same exact color, it depends on MANY variables, and no touch-up will match unless it happens to be the same variant. Shouldn't cost more than $10-15 for a few ounces, and you should have extra for future touch-ups.

Your local shop will most likely not be able to put the paint in a spray can. Also, I used pain from painscratch on many occasions and it was always best quality and mach.

Thanks for the help. I will call some local shops and see if they can put it in a can and compare the cost to the recommended sites.
Do you have to prime something like that or only if it is metal?
