Hood Dampers

So! I order a set of $60 Hood Dampers (Struts) for my Hood to make it super cool... I got the set in the mail today! Looks awesome and comes with everything i need! I researched this process and it appears it wont take longer then 10min!
Now for everyone who has installed dampers on our hoods knows the easy and simple spots to install them... But it would appear my 2014 Ralliart is missing a step to my process...

Any thoughts or ideas? I don't want to drill a hole in the spot it should go because it wouldnt have very much support... It's really flimsy

Looks normal ish...

Yeah, there should definitely be a brace under that spot with a bolt connecting the fender to the car. It would be identical to the one on the left in the last pic you posted. Maybe they deleted it in '14? I wouldn't mount the hood strut to that spot without bracing underneath or you'll just trash the sheet metal you bolt it to.

Lmao this is how Mitsu is saving money and surviving in the market... 1 small bolt and bracket at a time.
Well i ended up ordering a longer damper and bought a few new bolts to mount it in the big hole lower down. I might do a little how-to for the 2014's on this little minor problem lol i have also heard the 2013's are missing it too... can't confirm yet tho.

hrmm. hopefully not a defect. any other 2014 owners missing the brace?
I would take back to the dealer and look at the other cars and show them.

huh. Looks like a minor chassis change that no one noticed before. There's clearly support under there on my 2010:

Makes me think it's a defect on my car because that part is very flimsy now and there is sort of like a mark where a screw would go...

yeah i'm thinking this was Quality control issue at the Japan plant.
You need those to align the fender gap. I would think a human bolts those on at the factory not a robot.. someone sleeping on the job?

I have a 2012 ralliart and is missing that piece as well. Were you able to set up the dampers? If so how and where did you place them?

Looks like the norm on newer models. Here the solution.

Another option is redlinetuning. They make good dampers and alternative mounting location.

Are you using these?

If so, any issues? wear over time? simple enough install?

I know this is an old old old thread and this is my first post but I wanted to throw this in:

I just ordered my bonnet struts off eBay, and they mount in the same location... a non-existent bolt bracketed and welded in the exact location as the OP... except ours is missing the bracket...

I will look at making the brackets myself before the struts arrive, if not I'll just end up having to sell a set of bonnet struts for the 2010 lancer somewhere...

2012 Lancer SE Sportback, (at least with mine) this type of bonnet strut is not compatible.
