Hey Flex, welcome! I used to be over on 9GL as well, but I left due to some... personality conflicts. What ever happened to that place, I can't seem to find it any longer.

How will zip tying keep this from popping off? Also being new how would it be prone to any kinda issues? Just wondering, haven't heard of this at all
And yeah same, the people on 9g didn't seem very friendly or actually helpful. Too helpful anyways some experiences were better than some.
They've shut down, it doesn't exist anymore

If that hose pops off it will cause rough idle and cause the engine to run lean which would be bad

10 cent zip ties can save you from rebuilding your engine.

you can read more into it hear:

and what can happen if you don't zip tie them down:

Because it is not just a straight 'pipe' but has a flange. Feel the hose - you will understand why a simple zip tie or clamp will help.

So all I should do is attach a zip tie to the hose itself and tighten as much as I can??? Of course taking care not to crimp it, but the zip tie doesn't have to be attached to anything else aside from the hose? That's all I'm wondering at this point

correct, if you read the links i posted it explains it.
Right now its just a hose over a a metal nipple. Mitsubishi didn't feel the need to put a clamp or anything on it like they did to pretty much every other hose on the car. The pressure has caused the hose to pop off in the past. Just zip tie (use smaller size zip ties if possible) the ends to secure them in place to prevent this from happening (popping off).

Have fun with it. I still yet have to do the zip tie thing on my hose, though I haven't had any idle issues. I'm in same boat, I may get IC and UICP/LICP and BOV to help with throttle response. Other than that the car has good pickup and go.
I'm going to wait until spring to do this if I do(always depends on cash), though I've contemplating seeing if I can get a good deal on an EVO by then or trade RA for different color(got black, and I hate it right now, not sure why I bought black). Plus I have to find some place near by that I can trust to install the IC and parts.
Any who, enjoy the car!!! This is my first car in all my years that I can't wait to go out and drive it!

Since you bring up intercoolers and piping, how do I go about purchasing an aftermarket intercooler and crossing brands in terms of piping. For example, I plan on ordering an AMS intercooler, but running ultimate racing intercooler piping. When I bought the UICP from UR, I mentioned in the order I was rolling on my stock intercooler. Does this mean I will have to purchase more couplers, or different couplers to properly connect the upper intercooler piping to the intercooler? And how bad is the fitment with the lower intercooler piping being stock for the time being, because I know some say there is a pretty tight fit but it is manageable towards the bottom. Hope this can be touched on real quick, thanks!

Wait until you can do both the IC and the UICP (and LICP if desired).

Saves labor and the UICP is different for the stock RA and the EVO (which is the upgraded size).

See the other posts about EVO X FMIC (for Ralliart).

So I'd have to buy another set of upper intercooler piping???
Because that's already done I'm just wondering if I will need a different sized coupler since I told ultimate racing I have the stock intercooler piping with their upper intercooler pipe. I noticed they attached two silicone couplers to the bottom of the piping since the ralliart one is shorted than the aftermarket intercoolers. If I remove one of these couplers will the size fit the AMS FMIC? Or will I need a different size? And I'm planning on doing LICP alongside the intercooler install to save myself the hassle.

For the upper piping you can use the couplers you already have, you just have to cut the one at the intercooler to the proper length to match up with the taller intercooler. If you have not done the lower pipe yet, just be sure to get the coupler for the evo intercooler so the it is the correct size (it should be one straight length with no diameter reduction. The lower pipe is nowhere near as important an upgrade as the upper pipe, in terms of power and response increase, so long as you just replace the stock piece with "something". The factory Evo X pipe is usually the preferred replacement as it is readily available and very affordable while accommodating almost anything the stock turbo will throw at it.

Evo X IC and Piping How-To
