Exclamation Harsh SST transmission?

Hi guys

I want to apologise in advance if this question has been asked to death, but i can't seem to find a really good answer for it.

I have had my car (Ralliart -10) in 2 shops for unrelated minor fix ups. And both shops have complained about my SST tranny to be harsh and stuttery.

Now i've only had this car for 1< and i knew the box would be agressive in city traffic. I have no issues with it. It performs smoothly when accelerating and i think it shifts like a beast .

From what i can gather none of these 2 shops have any experience with the Ralliart, and one of them actually being my local Mitsubishi. Living in a rather small town and all xD.

So to get to the question. Have any of you guys had any experience with people or garages telling you that the gearbox is hard?

I hope they realize that a DCT is not as smoot as a CVT or regular Automatic Transmission.

My guess is that there's very little experience with these gearboxes over here. I don't know how rough the EVOX tranny is? But i know that is a more common car around these parts. Not sure though if they are automatic though.

I also agree they aren't real familiar with the Twin-Clutch set up so there not used to how it shifts. I compare it at slow speeds to just learning a manual, you get a lot of surging at slower speeds. At smoother gradual accelerations it's where the TWC starts to shine imo. Now, for me at least doing some WOT I get the surges when it shifts, so some one can correct me if that is what they get and supposed to get(though I'm nearing a much needed Trans fluid so that maybe why I'm getting some surges at WOT???).

That is actually a good explanation ^_^. It shifts like someone trying to learn manual. But like you say, it really is smooth when shifting on on gradual acc. I'm not sure if i get surges when i WOT shift, i tend to only use the paddles during winter drifting. But i'll give it a try and tell you how my car acts.

Also, do you change the trans fluid yourself (haven't checked where to bleed it yet, this car is kind of new to me. Or do you turn it in to let a shop do it?

I haven't done a Transmission fluid change myself, but there is a great write up in this forum somewhere. When I got the surges at WOT I was in sport mode/auto I was trying to do a 0-60 run for sh*ts and giggles(I suck at launching the car tried brake and feathering and only got 7.9, guess I was too nervous about cops lurking around.)

*I don't use sport mode in auto at all, done it a few times since I bought car, but now I don't(maybe on rare occasions doing these WOT pulls).
*I'm usually in normal/auto or in normal/manual most of the time, sport/manual when I'm doing some spirited driving on the weekends.
*I usually use the manual stick when in manual, but use paddles when in sport/manual just the way I roll...

I just did my service on the tranny this weekend. It was easy.

First read/understand the process and then go for it!

I have a '14 ralliart and i too had the same issues of the sst trans.
what i have realized is to have smooth shifting in city type conditions is, but the trans in manual mode and shift like you have a manual transmission. Up and down. and it just takes some practice with the gas pedal. smooth on and off application.

the sst is its own beast. It takes some getting used to but a beauty when your winding through the corners.
