NEWB EVO X MR TC-SST ?: GTR transmission compared to TC-SST?
Just curious if anyone has driven both and what their impression of both is?
I'm thinking about selling my IX and getting something else. The EVO X platform is on the short list.

The TC-SST in the Evo X is nowhere near the same level at the GT-R transmission.
AMS has pushed the GT-R to 1,300 hp and currently has the world record of 233 mph at the Texas Mile.
The Evo X is much more limited. SSP and Dodson offer 600 hp clutch packs for the Evo X, but it's still limited by torque.
The problem seems to be related to the programming of the transmission which opens the clutch packs under heavy torque, it appears to be a safety feature of the transmission. There are people experimenting with the transmission programming, but it takes time.
For now, if you want to build a big hp Evo X, you are stuck with the GSR.
The TC-SST is a great transmission, but it's still limited.
Shep has a couple of great options for high hp Evo X GSR, they offer a 5 speed Evo X Dog Box for about $10K and a 6 speed Evo X Sequential Gear Box for around $20K, they also offer less expensive upgrade options to the standard 5 speed.
You will not find all those options with the TC-SST, the development is still in it's infancy compared to the GSR 5 speed and the GT-R transmission.
There are a ton of related threads in the forums, what I'm giving you is the quick an dirty.

Not asking from a HP capable standpoint (Been there done that).
I'm asking from a response and capability standpoint for say 400-450hp.

A major difference is the TC-SST remembers and responds to multiple shift inputs, so if you click downshift twice, it will shift once, wait until the engine speed is appropriate, and then downshift again. The GT-R doesn't do this. General drivability is a little better too, Mitsubishi managed to tune out a lot of the bucking and stuff that dual-clutch transmissions are prone to, and it doesn't hammer through the shifts as hard either, while still being just as fast.

I had a GTR before moving to the Evo. The GTR tranny is obviously more robust, but with that comes more clunk/noise in its operation. As has been mentioned, the auto mode is infinitely better in the Evo especially when comparing normal modes.
I've been very impressed with the SST in the Evo thus far, especially for a car half the price.

I have both also and some of the info above is incorrect. The gtr will also wait and down shift multiple gears. However For everything from daily driving to tracking I would agree the evox mr tranny is superior although it doesn't obviously hold as much power. When you flash the gtr tranny however you can make it shift "better".
I couldn't imagine "downsizing" from a gtr to an Evo though even with the superior tranny.
