11 Ralliart s-sport launch attempt.

last night I attempted my first s-sport launch. I did all the necessary actions needed before the launch. I turned on s-sport mode, left the transmission on Automatic drive, turned off traction control, and buried my foot on the brake. I made sure to push down as hard as I could on the brake without breaking anything. I stepped on the gas pedal and my rpms only went up to a little over 3k. I released my foot from the gas because I read that the rpms need to be at 5k or so. I tried again but this time I tried pressing on the gas a little harder. the rpms still went up to a little over 3k and this time my car jerked a little but stayed in place. I got the transmission overheat warning and just stopped from there. I didn't want to mess anything up. any advise???

Your doing everything right.
It holds the rpm at 3k until you release the brake at which point it will launch and romantic will surge to 5-6k

And don't "dwell" at 3K - just time it to get to 3K and then release brake.
The tranny will overheat if you power brake in LC mode too long*.

*by long I mean more than a few seconds it seems...

When i had this flash on my car before it always hit 5k, as soon as it hit 5k i let off the brake. Don't know what you guys are talking about hitting 3k and surging up to 5

I "wish" it would only go to 3K RPM. 5K is too much IMHO for what I need.

I have a cobb tune stage 1 93. I'm tempted to try it again but I want to know what I should do before I go and mess up a very expensive transmission. I don't plan on launching everyday but its something I definitely plan on doing at least one or twice. I read somewhere that you can pump the gas to hit up to 5k and then release the gas but all the videos ive watched their rpms went straight to 5k and stopped until they let the brake go.

anyone have any other ideas? I appreciate everyones imput though. thank you very much.

No pumping required. Just floor it and then release the brake.

It is hard to ruin the tranny doing a launch, because if it senses an over-heat condition - it pulls all power and gives you the over-heat warning.

Now, it will reduce clutch life and is for sure putting a lot of stress on the rest of the driveline as well. Fortunately, our big brother (EVO X MR) means our driveline is 'over-designed' for our stress loads.

So, me? I practiced only until I was proficient and it was repeatable. Now I measure every situation for if it is truly LaunchMonster-worthy

okay, so i don't need to hold my foot on the brake for long, just for a couple seconds after i hit 3k rpm? or how long should i continue to hold the brake down? my biggest fear is pulling off a successful launch on the first actual attempt and then a few moments later i hear a bunch of gears grinding and my transmission poops.

i will be attempting this after my next oil change so in a couple weeks here but i want to know how long i should hold it at 3k rams and if i should be doing launch control in automatic s-sport mode.

just went out last night and did 3 launches at 5k with accidently 400 tq.. it didn't blow up.. you should be good man. your over thinking it.
Hold the break, Floor it. when the rpms get to about 4k just let off the break and hold on to the steering wheel.

Last night i attempted another launch. i did all the preparations needed. once i got up to about 3k rpms, which is all it would go up to. i released the brake and launched forward. i ended up slowing down and stopping the launch, which i don't think is the best idea. i got into second gear but by the end of second gear i began to redline at 7k and i got worried because it wasn't shifting into third as fast as i thought it would so i slowed down because i didn't know when it was supposed to shift and i didn't want to blow up. but i attempted it and it was very thrilling. so now I'm just wondering as to is it normal for the transmission to shift at redline numbers?

Obviously not really a car guy...
Yes if u want to go fast it will go to redline.. if your cars not tuned or anything it should shift fine in auto sport mode.. just go get it out of your system. Launch it and hold the petal to the floor until you read 100mph. That's how it would feel running it at the track

Watch my knee in the drag racing part of this video. You don't hold the pedal down so the rpms are at 3K, you are tapping the gas pedal while you are on the brake with the other foot, and by tapping you get it to 3K. On the last tap you let off the brake.
