Launch at Dragstrip

What are you guys doing to launch? All videos I have seen don't seem to be using Launch Control. Am I missing something?

Most people don't have launch control. Typically the tap method seems to be the most popular method to launch

Use launch control (since you have the S-Sport).

(I don't understand why you asked the question...)

Ended up trying Launch Control today...Car took off like a bat out of hell, totally unexpected. I don't think I had the brake pressed as hard as possible given that the Trans overheat light came on. Didn't go into limp mode though.

Trans overheat is from slipping clutch at 5K RPM. Learn to time it so as soon as it revs to desired RPM you release brake...

Also don't do it too much, as it will wear out your clutches quicker.

But like Veronica said; learn to time it right and you wont get the overheat light. Plus being able to time it faster will keep the slipping down to a minimum.

Between the tap method and launch control, is one method generally harder on the clutches?

LC @5K RPMs is waaaay harder on the clutches

Tap method gets to ~2K RPMs. Maybe.

Tap method gets really high. Does a jump but isn't as neck snapping experience as dumping the clutch on a manual awd car.

This is my RA with a GST Tune + Boostpill.

Tap it to 3Krpm. Then press the gas pedal fully. The RPMs go up to the 6Krpm and then the clutch engages.

I dont know if Mitsu changed the algorithm in the transmission on the RA or my old tuner was very lazy with the transmission tweaks but launching a 2015 is by far easier and more aggressive than with my old 2009.

IMO that is the best you can do with the tapping method.

If you have s-sport than use the factory launch control. Tap method does the job but nothing like launching at 5500 while avoiding the unnecessary wear and tear caused by said method. The engineers at Mitsubishi know how to launch your car just as fast as anyone else, while trying to preserve your incredibly expensive transmission. No need to worry about trying it out. If you fail launch control will save all the important bits from grenading, where as the tap method will just burn up your nice new clutch basket if done with the slightest degree of error.

Both are equally abusive to the transmission.

Having a more than decent amount of experience with both methods I can say for a fact that the tap method heated up that sst significantly faster than factory launch method. Also my clutch wear is much better over time having switched to the launch control method exclusively. Save your money and time.
