Basically long story short the transmission has went on my 2009 lancer ralliart sportback, loss of 3rd gear and 5th gear,, it's currently at 100,000miles, car was purchased for just under 3k and have been quoted well over that and more for it to go back on the road, had someone open up the gearbox to be told that the the shift forks are damaged/worn and that the best option is a service exchange box through mitsubishi at a cost of 3600 and that it would need a oil cooler at cost of 700. Any advice appreciated

Most likely the shift fork magnet failed which does need to be replaced. Not sure what your options out there are for repairing in Scotland. For an oil cooler you can search eBay for a used one or you could go aftermarket. A local company here makes a bracket for an aftermarket SST cooler and you would just have to purchase the cooler separate but it should be much sturdier than the OEM cooler.
