Debating on weather I should lower the car or not, sometimes I feel like the car is just to high but then I think that its all wheel drive. Also I kind of like the way the stance is right now stock height. I would like input on those that have lowered their cars and those that are thinking about it. Thanx.

Everyone here is just going to tell you to lower the car because then youll be cool like the rest of us.

Right to a point but also wrong.

Lowering the CoG will increase handling as long as you stay within the suspension geometry.

But shocks do not care where they stroke from. They die from using springs that have a crapy design (too low, too soft). Some springs are well designed and work great on struts.

 

Or better yet get coilovers and replace the whole thing.

 

Coilovers FTW.. this way you can set the damper and camber.. w00t.. and lower..

If your a ricer.. buy some crap springs and slam it..
If your a Tuner.. buy some better springs and drop it..
If your SMART... buy some coilovers and enjoy the options of all the settings and the increased handling of the car..

 

I actually decided against lowering the car. I tend to drive "off-road" a bit from time to time, parking in areas that are not paved, on hills, etc. If I lowered the car it would severly hinder my ability to go where I need to on a routine basis.

 

This is one of the stupidest things I have ever read...a few things that are wrong about this:

1. Ricers buy coilovers all too often. THEY BUY THE CHEAP $1000 KIND ALL THE TIME.
2. Tuners are just Ricers with better style and a decent amount of knowledge, but in the end they just buy parts for their car so that they can be a dick on the highway and get tons of fix it tickets. Oh and so they can sit in parking lots with other Tuners so that they can all compare how much money they have spent on their cars and talk about how other cars are crap.
3. Buying coilovers usually doesnt mean that you are smart, it usually means you are a ****ing moron who spent too much money on your daily driver and you bought suspension parts that you will never come close to fully utilizing.
4. PEOPLE WHO RACE buy coilovers that they need and will actually use for what they were intended for.

I know that most of the people who read my list will think Im a dumbass and that will just help prove my list is more realistic.

Coilovers are really a track oriented upgrade. Not really needed for real world (street) driving.

Plus they're fairly expensive.

 

At the end of the day people pay for the car can do whatever they want to their car. If it makes them happy and they enjoy life doing it without hurting or abusing anyone else who cares. Everyone seems so concerned on what this or that person is doing wrong and seems to forget that everyone is an individual. Give them the best information to help them out and leave it at that. They can do as they please.

The guy is defining who buys what in the most jaded way possible. But lets look at some common happenings in the "tuner" world:

1. People want everything for cheap
2. People who get a brand new car on the market MUST modify their car ASAP and tend to buy the first product that comes out
3. People want everyone to know what they have on their car and often times **** they dont have! A great example are signatures where people have their "to do list" commonly with things they will never do! Even better is when they say they have something because they are buying it tomorrow.
4. People "feel the power" or "feel the difference" with items that arent doing much change. OR they justify a part being the best one because the feel of it is awesome. And this stems from people just wanting **** to say they have it. They do no real research and just go off the previously mentioned "feeling" reviews from others like them.

The list could of course go on...and this is all about the other guys list because he has no basis to his. If you enjoy modifying your car for the hell of it then good for you but when you make a post on these forums when someone else might be looking for some decent answers, dont start spewing out useless banter. This is why high end car owners dont have respect for the younger crowd. Im just trying to talk some sense into this whole thing. /rant
