Behold! For I am winter ready!!!
Behold! For I am winter ready!!!
Total Cost:
Wheels $50 (friends he had laying around)
Tires $250 (General Altimax Arctic barely used off craiglist)
Lugnuts $20 (because ours have the huge lip on them)
Tire mount and balance w/new valve stems $43

Possible rubbing issues.... :-)

First test drive in a bit!!! Here's to hoping I don't need hubcentric rings!

ive never understood how someone can fork up 30k for a car, but would rather spend $700 (figuratively) on a 16" package instead of $900 on a nice 18" winter tire.
Sacrificing looks on a 30k + car for saving what.. 100$ a year just doesn't compute.

16" snow tires outperform 18". You have a softer ride and your less likely to curb a small wheel and big sidewall.
What size Altimax's did you get? I had 205/60/16s on 93 Talon wheels last winter. This winter I'm storing the Ralliart and put the wheels/tires on a newly aquired 400 hp 1993 Talon AWD!

16 inch snow tires do NOT out perform an 18" snow tire. Not even close. Maybe the Northwest US winters are subdue enough that you dont notice it, but in a canadian winter, on an AWD car the lower pro 18" with less flex in the side wall is both better for stopping on ice, and for handling.
The tires are 205/60/16.
As far as not spending the money on an 18 inch setup...this whole package cost 370 bucks including install so way way cheaper than even a 17" setup. This way I can use em to rallycross in too. That was a big factor. I like the rally look too of it.
As far as cost of the car. I spent 24k on it not 30k. And with a kid, house, and being married. I'm surprised I don't catch **** on that car payment even though I used to have a 28k Sti. It's all within my budget but if I can save 500 bucks by not having spanking new blizzaks and fresh rims on it I'll take it. Who wouldn't. This way I don't feel guilty about only having them on for a couple months per year too.

buy a crappy set of rims and a good set of tires that will handle the car and let you drive around with safety and thats all that matters.
to OP, your car looks good and damn ready for winter. if i'd come across a deal like that i'd be on that **** in seconds.
good find
