Blown shock

Hey guys, I ordered some swifts recently and I had a friend of mine install them for me since he has done ralliarts and his lancer before but something happend and the driver side shock blew. Do you guys think this will be covered under warranty? I only have 26k so I'm hoping they will cover it since we put everything back how it was.

They might, if they don't pay attention to the signs of whether or not the suspension was tampered with...

Really though, lowering your car w/ springs, regardless of how mild the drop is, always has a risk of blowing the shocks prematurely. Why bother trying to cheat the system when the premature failure is due to something you did?

If the shocks blew after I drove around with the springs I wouldn't be ticked. But I bought the springs as a temp solution until I can afford coilovers, I haven't heard anyone blowning shocks due to their springs yet but I know that it wears them down faster.

fair point. All you can do is try. If they replace the part under warranty, awesome. If not, hopefully they don't screw you over.

I just looked up the price of the OEM struts @ mitsubishiparts.net, and they're expensive ... over $200 for each front and over $100 for each rear.

I haven't found any after market manufacturers producing OEM replacement struts for the Ralliart specifically, yet. But the KYB GR-2/Excel-G struts for the GTS may work in a pinch (i.e. long enough to get you to coil-overs), and they're under $100 (~$80 each front; ~$50 each rear).

either way, best of luck to ya

Can u link me to the oem part? When I checked there's no replacement for just shock, it was whole strut and it said 500 something dollars, so I'm hoping your right and I'm wrong lol cause I realized my brake pads are shot too, so I have to spend another 100 for that

front struts $231.95 each:

rear struts $141.98 each:

prices i listed are OEM MSRP... the site has a significant discount on the parts

also, i've noticed that you often need to look up the first year of the production model to find the full parts list, especially if the parts didn't change between years.

sheesh... that's insane... :\

i think i would just live w/ the blown strut if i were going to replace w/ coil-overs in that case (assuming cost to replace had to come out of my pocket)

Just out of curiosity, would coilovers just in the front be ok? Or would it throw things off?

Idk much about suspension but I dont think it would throw anything off besides balance
