The weight savings thread

All right everyone,

It's time we put together an official weight savings / component weight thread. I would live everyone to post up what parts they have weighed so I can compile a list and possibly host a google spreadsheet or soemthing like that.

Please only post real weights, not guestimates. All of my measurements are done with the same bathroom scale so some error is expceted. If a part is too lite to read on it's own (less than 10lb) then I weight myself holding the part and again not holding it to get weight.

We want to list:
  • manufacturer
  • item description
  • ralliart year (if stock part)
  • ralliart model (sport back or sedan)
  • item weight

I'll try to keep the following list updated with typical weight savings (or specific when listed)

Description Weight Change (lb)
UR Testpipe -9.0
BC RAM Coilovers -16.6
Remove Spare & Jack -32.2
Swap stock wheels and tires for X wheels and tires-22 rotational

Nice!,

Thanks for contributing. I noticed we are off about a pound on the wheel / tire weight for stock.... I'm gonna go with an average of ours until we get some more data points.

Wow, sucks that this died off, so I'm gonna bring it back to life.

First, there's some decent information in another thread from awhile back so I figured I'd link it for reference to anyone here too: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/09...ce-weight.html
I found a few other threads covering the same topic, but they were mostly opinions and arguments with little fact-based or actual numerical data involved.

I'd also like to mention that my personal goal here is to shed any excess, without losing any of the creature-comforts I've come to love about my Ralliart. It's not a dedicated track car, it's a daily driver that I like to have some fun with on the weekend, and I'd like to keep it as such. There's just nothing wrong with trimming the fat a little...

Stock Wheel/Tire/TPMS: 48.6 lbs
Enkei RPF1 17x8.5+Hankook V12 245/45: 41.2 lbs
Total loss: 29.6 rotational

I'm also happy to say that I just lost about 30lbs of weight today and will be losing a bit more in the near future once a few things are worked out and/or delivered. Also, I'm just using a bathroom scale, too, so nothing scientifically accurate, just an educated guess.

For now:

Stock Battery: 35.4 lbs
Shuriken BT20 Battery: 12.4 lbs
Total loss: 23.0 lbs
(For anyone interested, my battery tested around 360 cca @ 40*F with Mid-tronics @ my work, for reference I have a friend with a Genesis 16 ep that tested around 440 cca @ 120*F on the same tester. And the Shuriken is about 1/3 the cost of the Genesis, Odyssey, or Braille in similar size/rating)

Stock Rear Tow-Hooks and Bolts (left 2 bolts in car needed to hold AWC pump): 8.2 lbs

Total loss for today: 31.2 lbs!
Total comfort loss: None

does anyone make hollow sway bars? Tanabe has hollow sway bars for the evo9. they weight about half of stock. upgraded swaybars are even heavier than stock.

I though Cusco's bars were hollow?

Edit: Nevermind, I just checked again and it's listed as solid. Wouldn't a hollow bar be asking for trouble? Unless you meant strut tower bar that is usually a straight across design without bends that would be compromised by lateral movement...

a tubular structure has many times the tendcy to not want to twist compared to a solid pipe. it acutally works better than a solid bar for this purpose. it obviosly costs more for the machinery to bend it the pipe.

WORKS makes hollow ones for the EVO X. I wonder if it can be made to fit the RA.

I just picture in my head, unless designed precicely with quality materials by a reputable, knowledgeable company, that the force exerted on the bar could turn the handlebar shape into something similar to a Greek "omega". So I definitely agree that, like you say, something worth actually using with that type of design would undoubtedly be more expensive than a standard upgraded solid-bar design but would be worth looking further into.

If you notice, though, Works only has the front bar as hollow while keeping the rear bar solid to help equal out that extra little bit of front/rear weight distribution.

Whiteline rear sway bar is WAYYY heavier than the stock one...
The hallow ones are usually bigger in diameter... so far, Ive never seen hollow sway bars for the RA.
