Road hazard

Do you guys typically get road hazard on your tires? On my Tiburon it had real low profile tires and come every winter I would shred a tire because the cold would make it break the seal and my rim would slice it up. So it was well worth it. Doesn't seam like that would be a problem with the RA. Does anyone have this issue?

Any other thoughts on Road hazard protection? Scam? Worth it? Let the debate begin.

well...I'm not sure if you're asking seriously or just trying to get a conversation going, but...I get road hazard from discount tire, and it's paid for itself on average. Sometimes I have no problem through the life of a tire, and sometimes I have a tire replaced 4 times...just depends on weather, construction on the roads around me, etc. It's the same as any gamble, sometimes you come out ahead, and sometimes you don't end up winning.

When i went tire shopping i took road hazard into consideration because ive gotten nails in my tires a few times and its nearly $35 each time. Plus some shops wanted 500$ for all 4 tires without and I found one shop that did 500$ with road hazard so obviously i took that.

I was just trying to get a convo going. Other than when I had my Tib I typically didn't purchase it and mathematically it worked out. I guess as an accountant the dollar and cents side of me takes over and I figure the company couldn't make money if they didn't charge more than they had to pay out. Therefor the odds are in my favor.

Here's the trick, call on the phone when ordering your tires. When they ask about the road hazard, act interested but skeptical because it's so expensive. They'll usually cut the advertised price in half to make the sale. Works for me every time.

Let's put it this way: They wouldn't sell it if it wasn't profitable. It's not a scam, it's just for those who can't afford an unexpected expense. If you're living paycheck-to-paycheck and you suddenly have a $200 expense from a flat tire; road hazard is suddenly a Godsend. If you always have enough cash in the bank or credit available; the odds are that you won't need it and you can just save the money.

That, and with an AWD car, if there's too much wear in a tire when it goes you have to replace all four or shave the new one down. So for this crowd, it really doesn't make much sense.

Good point on the AWD and having to replace all of them anyway.

When I said scam I was being a little sarcastic. I didn't mean to offend anyone offering it.
