TPMS on stock wheels, taking off?

So Im selling my stock wheels to upgrade since im on my winter set now. I want to keep the tpms instead of buying them but Im not sure exactly how to get them out. I was thinking of going to a shop but not sure. Has anyone taken them out before? Would they work on new wheels? OR can we somehow disable the light on the dash??

You are going to have to take your wheels to a tire shop to have them removed. Most will unmount the tires and remove your TPMS. Some places can remove the TPMS without having to unmount the tires.
Either way shouldn't be more than $20-$60.

Good luck!

the tpms is mounted to the tire stem to fill up the tire, its literally right behind it. They have to unmount your wheel, and remove the tire to get to it. and they are fragile, make sure they are careful, they run like 200 dollars.

i've never heard of it being law, just a safety feature, see unfortunately we live in this world of retards, and not everyone checks there oil, coolant, tire pressure, etc. So car makers have had to install idiot proof things like tpms and maint. lights. No way to turn them off, unless you get tpms in your winter rims and have them set to the car. Have fun turning them off everytime.

It's law. Still the same idiots that caused stuff like this to become a federally required piece of equipment...

http://www.bartecusa.com/tpms-legislation.html

NHTSA have stipulated that for 2008 all newly manufactured or imported US cars will be fitted with TPMS systems...

well you have proven me wrong, however working in law enforcement i have never heard of anyone ever checking for someones tpms. Its like giving someone a ticket for having something hanging from your rear view mirror, it just doesnt happen, even though it is a law. Bet ya never heard of that one lol. Sorry no fuzzy dice, or scented pine trees for you!

I agree. Stupidity law.

I don't mind hitting the button every time so much really. It's become muscle memory.

I still have my OEM Wheels with the TPMS in them. Use them with semi-stickies for SCCA Solo days. Stock class, so not worth replacing a good wheel with a way more expensive one the same 7" size when smoothness of hands does just as much.

The sensors are screwed on from inside the rim, then the outside stem is attached. It's expected for any reputable shop to be able to handle this task.

On top of all this I have been messing with my TPMS since i changed my tires a couple times. You can just transfer the sensors from one tire to the next, this is easy to do yourself. If you get new TPMS sensors, MITSUBISHI has to program them to your car so they can read each other. This is in my experience, any comments?

i stopped caring for tpms.. took to a shop and had them take them out and give them to me. i just put a piece of tape/paper over the light so it wont bug me and i've passed inspection before.

some people put the sensors in a wheelbarrow tire and leave it in the trunk LOL just to satisfy the tpms light..

that doesn't work with our cars... the TMPS requires a rolling wheel to activate and measure tire pressure.

I'm thinking of buying some new summer wheels and tires and running the stock wheels for winter next year.

Question is, would it be possible to buy a used set of TPMS's from another 2011 Ralliart or Evo from Ebay or the classifieds and not have to get them programmed? I'm thinking each Lancer to TPMS has different frequencies... anybody know?
