Question Spring install?

Hey guys just wanting to know how hard it is to install a new set of springs? I'm looking at the swift one and just need to know if I should take it to a shop or if I can do this in my garage? Also if you have any tips on this that would be great.

if you have a garage, car jack, spring tensioners, deep metric sockets, breaker bar, and 4 to 6 hours of time its pretty easy. The hardest part for me was removing the rear shocks, after i realised you also need to disconnect the upper control arm it was a lot easier.

It's just a matter of you spending the time to do it. I am planning to do a UICP/FMIC/LICP swap as a DIY project. My buddy said he can do it $70-80 but, I rather do it and learn.

Yeah, just takes a bit of time. I would also try and recruit a friend to help. It can get kinda hairy in some spots depending on how old your car is. If you're rocking an 09 in the midwest you might have some stuck bolts.

if you have no experience doing this, its goin to be quite a learning experience. I did it myself with a friend. We did not use a spring tensioner, i can tell you the springs will not be shooting off like bullets and flying across the room. It took a friend and i about 5hrs to do it. We had not a single clue what we were doing. here is a video though that can kinda give you some direction.

Let me just tell you, and im not speaking bad of the company, but this video is incredibly "ghetto".

It's a very simple thing to do just Intimidating but honestly very simple just like everyone is saying takes some time an have a friend help you. don't waist your money having a shop do it.

Alright cool. Looks like a good weekend project for me to do. The video kida makes it look easy. I also have a compresser so hopefully it won't be that hard to do.

No you don't. I did my coil-overs without disconnecting it.

Seriously? I had a hell of a time trying to get the top part of the rear shock out of it's location, the bottom bolt was already out so it went beyond the lower control arm. I had to unbold the upper control arm to get the whole assembly to drop lower for me to pull out the shock.

trust me, get the spring compressor, safety first. $55 rented from autozone and you get it all back when you return it.

I did it without disconnecting upper control arm too, multiple times. First to put lowering springs on, and then to put coilovers on. Also did it the same way on my previous car '08 Lancer GTS. It doesn't just pop in an out if you do it this way, but with a pry bar it isn't ~too~ difficult. Disconnecting the anti-sway bar helps tremendously though.
