Maybe A stupid question... About OIL

I just took my RA in (to the dealer) for it's first servicing marker. When I got the car the oil type was 5-w30 syn. When I got it back I notice on the bill they put 5-w20 mobil 1 in it. I protested a bit and they explained it was alright. should I be worried ? I feel like they put cheaper oil in it on purpose. What they don't know is I would have paid whatever the diff was, why would they do that ?

mobil 1 5-20 is far from being "cheap oil".

i do not know how they can justify dropping down in viscosity to 20 though.

i would think they would have been better off going 10-30 syn.

if they could not find the recommended 5-20

Yeah, $49.00 is far from cheap just for the oil not counting the ginormous labor bill. But I can't figure out why changed from what they first put in it. They acted like that was what was in it the first place. I don't think They thought I was smart enough to read the sticker they put in the window in the first place.

^ +1. go to wal mart, and buy 5 quarts of whatever oil tickles your fancy for cheap. go to mitsubishi, and buy an oil filter. Go home, do it yourself, save like 50 bucks, and spend some quality time with your baby

I guess that the dealer oil do for now. I am new to owning a turbo and I don't want to burn it up because of dealer stupidity. The reason I had them do the oil (first service) was I took it in for the two recalls (hood cable and break checkvalue) and just had it done beacuse it was in a shop.

5-20? ugh... With it being the warmer time of year, i'd probably go 10-30, but 5-30 should be ok. I would try to stay away from 5-20, though.

They put 5w-20 at the dealer, that's what's worrying me.

The book calls for 5w30, so I think the 5w20 wont be doing you much good

I know this is a really dumb question but how can you fit under your Ralliart to change the oil?

Easiest method is to go to a auto hobby shop and put it on a lift, but a jack and jackstands work as well.

i work at a dealer and mitsu calls for 5-20 in the car actually. believe it or not.

theres actually a bulletin that says "The owner is not required to use fully synthetic oil for this vehicle. The owner's manual suggests: 'To better protect your engine and turbocharger, use fully synthetic engine oil.' However the factory fill is petroleum based oil..."

so the car originally came with non-syn oil. jic you really wanted that much detail
