Car went WOT

Was driving home this evening from work, stuck in traffic, crawling from 5-6mph for about 20 minutes. I had the car in manual-normal shift mode. Mostly in 1st gear. So finally traffic clears up and I'm slowly accelerating back up to speed.

I normally shift at ~2500 when driving casually. My foot's like 1/3rd of the way on the gas, a hair pass 2000 when out of nowhere, the car bucks foward, slams my head back, and I find the needle north of 5 grand. I left go of the gas and it continues up north of 6 grand. All in the space of about a second or so.

I touched the brake slightly, upshifted, and it didn't do it again. No clue what happened but i almost slammed into the car in front of me. Funny part was, on the rest of the home, I tried flooring it in sport mode from a rolling start and I couldn't get the same shove I got.

VTEC KICKED IN!!!

...

ok srs;

That's weird man...never had anything like this happen to me. Any SES/CEL lights turn on before/after the event? Did you pull over and shut motor down for a little? Try calling your dealer!

Are you sure your foot didn't momentarily turn into a solid piece of lead?

The car is completely stock and there were no warnings whatsoever. Had it for 3.5 months now, ~7100 miles, never had anything like this. I couldn't really pull over cause i was in the middle of 3 lanes of tired angry commuters, after i backed off a little and shifted, it worked fine again.

I thought maybe it was cause I might've hit the gas too hard so I tried getting a 5-6mph rolling start and flooring it and i couldn't get it to buck as hard as it did earlier.

Mine did something like that yesterday however i was driving betwwen 40-45 in sport mode sometimes shifting down based on traffic movement when I shifted down it beeped as if I had gone into first more than once and then revved all the way to 5k and then I downshifted to stop it from doing it.

It was weird to say none the less. There has got to be a bug somewhere in the system if I am not the only one who has had something similar happen to them. I count my shifts up and down ever since I started driving manual 0ver 10 yrs ago so I know I was on point as far as what gearing I should have been in.

^ iam guessing its because as you were slowing down, it down shifted for you automatically (does this in manual mode also depending if the rpms drop to much) so you happened to down shift at the same time, and it gave you the error beep. Not sure about downshifting to get it to drop rpms.

Did it to me once, now i pretty much know the speeds it will downshift for you depending on what gear you are in.. i was slowing down to make a turn in 3rd, as i got close to my turn i slowed just a bit.. it down shifted for me a second before i did. I went from 2nd to 1st quickly and the rpms hit 5kish. Yes it was in manual mode.

ive had this happen to me.. though it was just the boost from the turbo hittin before i let off the gas so it forced air in and gave me a boost.. i almost slammed into the back of this car because of it.. dunno.. only happened a few times to me..

This sounds like an issue that could cause a wreck mitsu needs to fix this.. and i though that it is full manuall mode as in no auto shifting either way???

Sounds to me it was struggling to figure out what gear you wanted to be in for traffic. I keep it in second gear in the SST or a Manual trans. Most of the time full automatic is better and faster than the user. Foreal Foreal.

Automatic is best... manual is outdated..

Sounds like there maybe another recall in the future for the Ralliart. Definitely a scary thing to happen while driving in traffic.

Sounds like you were granny shifting, not double clutching like you should.

Sounds a bit like you crossed over a downshift point in the software and when you let off the gas the boost pressure could not vent and got forced into the throttle body after you lifted off the gas.

Check and make sure you don't have any crimps in the blow off valve return pipe (hose that goes back to the intake pipe that vents boost). Only time I have seen revs shoot up when off the gas is when the blow off valve cannot vent and the residual boost gets forced past the throttle plate.

If it is a drive by wire issue, that is very scary. Are you sure you did not have cruise control on or anything????
