Hks ssqv
Hks ssqv
Hi All,
I have a HKS SSQV with plumb back kit from a previous car that I was thinking about installing onto my RA.
I've heard rumours that this could possibly cause issues with the motor/gearbox because of the efficiency of the BOV. Is this true? Has anyone fitted one to their RA or EVO X? Have they had any problems?
I've done a search but the first few pages all related to older evo's which I know didn't have an issue with them.

don't bother with it, it will cause you nothing but problems.. your stock bpv does just fine,no real reason to switch it. you can swap it for an evo x metal bpv if you really want to.
if you're looking to get a louder sound then get a drop in filter. Its cheap and effective to increase sound and small gains for hp/tq

What problems have people experienced??????
My experience with stock plastic bpv's is that they leak like sivs hence the reason I'm looking at an aftermarket replacement. I don't care about the sound, it's more about holding stable boost.

these should answer some of your questions you have bro.

honestly, just go for a metal stock evo x, viii mr, or ix one.

If you are looking for better reliability, buy the stock Evo X BPV. It is THE BEST BPV/BOV you can EVER buy for your RA. If you want the sound, then buy the BOV. But like others said earlier, it isn't the best idea for a system built for BPV's.
I already have all the recirc parts for mine and this is how it would be installed. I will not have it venting to atmosphere.
Have the people running them had issues with them when recirc'd or venting????????

i have used greddy type rs vented and recirculated, hks ssqv vented and recirculated, blitz vented, tial vented, and forge evo15 recirculated never had a problem... but i am currently using the forge... because it more discrete when it blows off... which doesnt bring more attention to my RA since i already have a pretty loud turboback now...
now with the hks... depending on which version you have... i may cause the turbo to flutter or surge because the spring tension is not adjustable... meaning its not letting the boost to blow off... so yea....

Can someone please explain why recirculating is supposed to be better. Everyone keeps saying that if you vent to the atmosphere you dont get the right air fuel mixture as the air ins't thrown back in the intake. But if oyu look at the recirculating pipe, it comes behind the mass airflow sensor. So witch is it, is it good or bad.
Ironically, if you're worried about leakage, the stock BPV is better. Unless you actually notice leakage, there's no point in replacing a perfectly good unit. Generally this only happens when you're making significantly more boost than stock.
The SSQV I have does self adjust so turbo surge will not be a problem.
So by the sounds of it only a few people on here have actually ever used one of these and not had any problems when doing so, is this correct????
I'm not interested in what other types of BOV and DV are like as I do not already have them but I do already have my HKS one so any more info on this would be appreciated.
As with most stock parts of this nature the standard BPV appears to me to be pretty crappy. In my previous expirience with different brands of turbo cars unless you buy a very high end car the plastic BPV leak. This would probably be the reason the EVO MR's come with metal BPV's instead as they are Mitsubishi's top model.
