Ive been worried about this same issue, the hard jerking when changing gears, but with my car i can actually hear the gears in th tranny trying to lock into place sometimes with a bit of grinding especially in down shifting in 1st and 2nd, not so much if at all upshift. Ive had the transmition replaced before because it started slipping in 1st gear.. Am i driving my car too hard?? I would think it could take at least a little bit of abuse since its the same tranny the MR uses. (completely stock, no mods)

 

One more thing, I have driven a manual, i know whata it suppose to feel like. Im more worried about the gear noise.
