ever since i bought it it shifts weird. while shifting from 1st to 2nd it jerks and down shifting there is a slight jerk. There also is a problem when im driving and i let of the gas and get back into it and it shifts thats when you can really notice it. i was wondering if anyone else has this problem or does anyone know what it could be?

sounds like its working as intended.

your likely feeling the engine movement when its shifting. I plan on putting in the ams street front motor mount at some point this spring. should help tame some of the engine movement.

it will slightly. not sure if anyone has tried their street version. I wouldn't go race version. my last car had solid engine mounts and it was rediculous. throttle response was snappy but honestly not worth all the vibes for daily driving.

Judging by where he is located, it might be worse because of the cold weather. If all he is talking about is the normal jerking motion that you would experience in a manual, then all is well.

OP: I would suggest talking someone with a manual EVO into letting you ride with them. If the jerking motion you feel in your car is similar to his, then there is nothing to worry about.

i suggest you just drive it in D. your transmission will probably last longer and your fuel economy will be higher.

If you have ever driven a manual, the SST is very similar in the way shifts. Definitely takes some getting used to. It's definitely not as smooth as a typical auto trans, but *can be* smoother than a manual. Most of the time, I think it's pretty slick, but it doesn't react as quickly as one could with a manual. The reason being when you let off the gas, the SST doesn't know whether you are about to slow down or jump back on it. So when you do jump back on it, there's a slight delay & then *clunk* it engages again. The *smoothness* comes into play when your are driving in manual mode, giving you more control over the SST. This way it's not trying to figure out what you want it to do, just waiting for you to tell it what to do...

Very well explained...

Although I think I already know the answer to this, but I'll ask it anyway... OP, have you driven manual/stick trannies before?

this is probably your problem. I wasnt use to this tranny when I first got the car, control your throttle and dont accelerate hard, completely let off, then continue to accelerate as the transmission will first downshift, then force a quick upshift, as you have tricked it. IF you want to control your car like this, put it in manual mode.
