AMS Hi Flow Cat installed Yesturday
I wasnt expecting the turbo to whistle like a vent to atmosphere BOV or anything. I was just wondering if putting the HFC on would help carry the sound of the turbo spooling. I just thought that I would ask cause when I had removed the stock exhaust I startded the car and revved it a little and heard the whistling of the turbo, that is all.
Ok so I went ahead and installed my HFC pipe the other night and had no problems with CEL's when I went out to test it. Yesterday I had to go to work and I still had no CEL and after my car sat 11hrs at my job I went to go home and a CEL came on. OP did you go ahead and purchase the O2 spacer from AMS when you installed it. I am curious as to why mine would come on when I hd no problem the night I installed it.
The CEL comes on even with the spacer. Just a lot less frequently. W.O spacer it'll come on the same day. With Spacer it can be a month before it comes on...
can you post a vid of the sound please? is it alot louder than stock?
As far as the exhaust being louder I would say the with the AMS catback it really completes the tone of the system. It has a deeper growl and W.O.T. is definitely louder but still within reason. The car really feels lighter after removing the entire stock system. I am really happy with how everything has turned out. I also noticed that the shakes I used to experience from 4th to 5th gear at full throttle have dissapated significantly.
Hey Kevin. It won't hurt ur car you will just have to deal with the service engine soon light. You could pick up an ob2 code reader and just clear it yourself if it comes on. I'm thinking of doing this they have one at sears for $50.
just installed the test pipe and wow, what a difference. i have the cp-e catback and was going to stick with their full setup, but ams is the only one i found that was a straight pipe without the bend similar to the stock piece, just angled flange mounting to make it fit perfectly. install was a breeze. took all of 20 minutes including 5 minutes for the pb blaster to start working, although i did have a lift to work with.
the noise difference before and after is amazing. i thought it sounded mean before, holy wow, i had no idea, i thought it already sounded mean with the catback...its hard to describe. and my camera, nor the ones with videos posted on youtube can do this system any real kind of justice. you've got to hear it in person to truly appreciate it... anybody near chicago still trying to decide on what route to take? live demos available, lol.
as far as power, i can only say this: before i put on the test pipe, the car has been quick, but always within the limits of the stock computer controls, no tune, etc. after installing the test pipe, i got the car on the road and, multiple times, had the rpms bouncing off the rev-limiter under wot conditions in normal mode, not sport with the shifter in automatic drive, no paddle shift. obviously this isnt any kind of definitive evaluation with numerical guarantees of change, but i can say that i have never been able to get it to hit the rev limiter in any gear under automatic shifting conditions in either of the two driving modes. so, if nothing else, there was at least that much of an increase where the computer required further self-adjustment in order to compensate for the added power
