So, are we to assume that you're still running the stock exhaust then, or did you find an aftermarket exhaust that's quiet enough for you?

Once I get done fabricating a new baffle for the muffler on my school's Formula SAE car, I plan to order new UR IC piping and install my new EVO X IC. Then, I am going back to Orlando in June-ish to install a new boost pill and have the car tuned. After thoroughly going over my stock exhaust system, I can't find a legitimate reason to justify the expense of buying an aftermarket system. I just can't. With just a boost pill, drop-in, IC, piping, and tune, I will probably find myself on the high side of what I am comfortable with on the stock transmission anyways. Even if I were to swap to the X turbo and manifold, I'm not sure that I would be inclined to replace my exhaust. It isn't too restrictive. It is just...heavy. The piping looks decent.

The size and shape of the stock exhaust tips are the main thing I don't like. They're way too small compared to the open space they occupy, and their elliptical/oval shape isn't very attractive in my opinion. I prefer the larger and more symmetrically round tips that are typically found on most aftermarket exhausts.

HAHA! i have to leave forr wok at 0530. My nieghboors are going to LOVE me! Its all good though, there are plenty of loud cars here. At least with the UR exhaust you have the option of making it a bit quieter by getting the minimuffler.

I like the new routing pattern of their (UR's) actual new muffler system (not the whole TBE). It splits the piping before it hits a baffle (from I have seen in the pictures). That is my biggest problem with the stock exhaust. It seems that the HKS Legamax muffler segment essentially uses the same design. That is probably why it is so quiet. In layman's terms, the exhaust flow hits a "wall" when it flows into the muffler. The sound waves traveling out of the motor can be thought of as planes traveling down the exhaust system. When they come in contact with a bend or other obstruction, part of the wave itself is diverted back into the system. This has a quieting effect. A muffler oriented perpendicularly the flow of sound waves (and exhaust gases for that matter) will create at least some back-pressure of both gas and sound waves. However, in the UR system, the "wall" is substituted with a more fluid bend in the piping after the center-pipe. The mufflers seem to be effective, but this is MOST LIKELY derived from their sheer volume (two smaller mufflers vs. one large one). A higher volume resonator (depending on the actual design) does not necessarily mean a quieter exhaust system either (it does mean that most likely it will suppress noise from a higher range of frequencies generated by different RPMs).

I am not saying that those of you who have purchased the Legamax exhaust threw your money away. I am not that smart, and I am sure that HKS thought of that and dealt with that problem in an interesting way. I do have a sneaking suspicion, however, that they figured that since the stock exhaust was adequate in that configuration, they could get away with the more cost effective solution of creating a more straight-forward design (perhaps why it costs so little, especially for a "name brand" product).

But hey, maybe those 90 degree bends have the same effect as the HKS system. I just prefer a system where the mufflers are located on straight pieces of piping for the reasons stated above. However, I am not basing that on any experience with either of these two systems.

I guess that that didn't really have anything to do with my original objection: loud exhausts suck. I guess that I have more of a problem with people purchasing parts just to purchase them in this case. But yeah, I also like to be conscientious of the people around me, so my major dilemma in this case is to find an exhaust that flows optimally well (least number of bends and blocks) but at the same time maintains at least a legal level of noise pollution. That being said, I haven't found any MAJOR defects in the stock exhaust, other than the actual muffler. That I would actually consider replacing, depending on what numbers I could find out there for other systems.

Here's a link to a picture of the custom made Magnaflow rear axle-back exhaust that I put on my Ralliart, and I'm very happy with the looks, the sound, and the price!

Yeah, that is the thing about resonators. They tend to form a distribution curve around a certain frequency. However, if you get them just right (number of chambers, design, placement, size, volume, etc.), they create something that truly does sound magnificent.

I'm not sure if yall are still discussing, but if you are, I have the UR with no resonator or mini muffler and it sounds insane! Here's a vid of it getting dyno done, it sounds beautiful ;_; lol

^ installed mine today.. Did you have any fitment issues? I gotta contact UR about my muffler (driver side tip sitting 1 inch higher then passanger side). I also gotta build a bracket to pull the exhaust a bit over, my mid pipe is rubbing on the heat shield. And Yes its all installed correctly..

Other then that.. Sounds amazing. Will have a clip, once i get my buddies cam. Phone video doesn't work at all
