EVO X turbo swap = Harsh shifts??

Question for the fellow RA owners that has done the X swap, or really any RA owner that's making significantly more power over stock.... Have you guys noticed the shifts get significantly harsher?

I got to drive a stock RA recently and noticed that the Sport Manual mode shifts feel like the Normal Manual mode on mine now.

Worried that maybe the SST is starting to give me the "up yours" and getting ready to die.

I noticed mine shifts more smoothly when I'm using the "stick shift" method if I hold the stick in the pulled back position for 1-2 seconds before releasing it and allowing it to snap back to the center positon.

Correct me if I am wrong here, but isnt there no difference whatsoever between Manual normal and Manual Sport? You choose when to shift, so you wouldnt feel a difference between the two anyway since the ecu is not keeping rpms up at 3k, you are. That being said, it doesnt surprise me that it felt the same, it should

I believe the shifts are supposed to be quicker and firmer in Sport vs. Normal. I don't notice a big difference either.

I could understand being quicker and firmer in Sport mode auto, but manual, you pretty much control that. Interesting stuff

Actually you don't. In manual you only control the timing. When you flip the paddle, the computer determines how quickly to let the first clutch out and how quickly to apply the second clutch.

For example: Say the computer swaps clutches @ 40ms in Normal, it would then swap the clutches @ 20ms in Sport, thus giving you a quicker more solid shift.

I don't know the actual numbers, I'm just using these numbers to illustrate my point.

my only harsh shifting experience is when down shifting (normal and sport) from 4th to 3rd gear. I can really feel the car slow down considerably and the "jerk" really sends my body forward. other than that... shifting (normal and sport) has been the same since day 1 (now at 30k miles). nothing really noticeable except that even through upgrading.

mmm... it sounds like I might be the only one having this problem. The weird thing is every so often, it shifts perfectly... no jolt. I'm getting the car retuned next weekend and I'll talk to my tuner. See if they can do something about it.

I have the same thing - normal is jerky like sport mode (which is even more jerky) and it used to be seamless. My car is stock, 16k

You might try adjusting the timing between shifts. GST has info about this around the forum. The 09 definitions are here.

^lol, i'm not trying anything. If I try to learn to tune... I'm going to blow up the car. I already mentioned that to ER.... we'll see what they can do next weekend. Hopefully this is something that can be resolved with a bit of fine tuning.

What Piper747 said.

The lower bound table needs to be retuned for your new ignition timing curve. It will also help with boost spikes between shifts.
