Advance Engine Oil for the RA

Over the weekend, as I was talking to my neighbor about the RA vs. his Civic SI, we had a brief discussion about engine oil. Since then I have been wondering if there is a synthetic oil or any kind of advance oil (other than what the dealers) put into the vehicle?

In my opinion, the top 3 choices are Castrol Edge, Amsoil, or Motul. All are full synthetic.

Mobil 1 is also a good option. As is Royal Purple.

Mobil 1, Castrol edge, AMSOIL are going to be your best bet imo. I have been using Mobil 1 but the next oil change and from then on I will be using AMSOIL.

If you want to pay a little more I have heard great things about redline oil. You can check out their web site. With that being said I will probably go with mobil 1. Unless there is something else reasonably priced and as good of quality as M1.

I use Total (Elf) oil, it's european and that's what my dealership has in stock. My Father puts that in his Audi and it comes very recommended from any high end vehicles.

The owner's manual says to use 5W-30. Why are you recommending 0W-30?

because the owners manual is wrong ,,,, naa just kidding,

many evo 10s are running 0W30 SSO, reason being is that all 30 fit an engine that requires 30 weight, for example let me explain an 0W30 all it means is that it will flow at colder temps but still lubricate as a 30 oil, 0W30 normally used for colder temps or tight toleranced engines where most engines today are built tight toleranced from factory.

the thinner the oil the more HP you will make, however you need to make sure the oil is a good quality so it holds up to the heat and abuse of turboed cars

Please correct me if i'm wrong but after doing some research, ELF oil is quite possibly the best lubricant on the market. However, it was designed for race applications and was meant to be replaced after each race day. The oil I read about could poss. have been the only one of ELS's product that broke down this fast. You should do your own research before purchasing it. It sounded like it was not a very good option for daily driven cars. Amsoil is prob. the best bang for the buck IMO. I would do some research before I branch out to oils unfamiliar to the general public. Again this was something I read online. I'm not an expert, just an enthusiast.
