Light weight Crank Pulley?

Is anyone running a light weight or underdrive crank pulley? I did this on a couple of my previous cars and it never disappointed. Do they even offer a light weight or underdrive for our cars?

On the same note does adding a bigger throttle body help at all or is this even offered?

I have another part on my want list now. Thanks for the link. Would the car have to be tuned with something like this? It doesn't really affect a/f.
Has anyone installed one yet?

Careful when choosing an crank pulley. I'm not sure about how it works on the RA, but in other makes changing the crank pulley means losing the harmonic balancer, which can lead to harmonic vibrations in the crank shaft. Over time, this means bearing and/or crank failure due to excessive vibration.
Like I said, I don't know if it would be the same on the RA, but I would find out before doing this mod. IMHO, adding on 2-3 hp isn't worth the risk if you need to remove the balancer.

Look into this thread about a pulley on an older Mitsu motor.

Anyone know about this? So if the crank pulley is just the pulley and not the harmonic balancer we should be okay? I guess I never had to worry about it before so I never thought of that. I have heard about that with other cars. The pulley for the RA must be the same as for the X? I guess I could search the X forum area to see what they say.

"A Newly Designed Engine With No Balance Shafts
The pre-modern 4G63 was fitted with balance shafts, which were used to eliminate vibration. Many modified 4G63 engines had to have their balance shaft removed because it became a nuisance when tuning the engine. The new 4B11 doesn't come equipped with balance shafts. Overall, the engine itself is cleverly designed so that vibrations are nonexistent even without balance shafts."

if tomei says so after disecting the engine it must be true lol

and yeah same engine same pulley... i assume

LOL well that makes me feel a little better. I will just have to do some more researching and asking around. I did find this thread. What do you guys think about this?

spend the 140$ on something more realistic.

Like i dunno, test pipe, evo x bpv, upper ic pipe, you know, viable legit parts that have no risk in purchasing them.

Next week I plan on buying an X BOV and X FMIC and pipes. I should have my drop in K&N filter installed saturday if it comes in. I was just thinking after that.
I wouldn't mind a test pipe I just dont want any chance for a CEL and have to mess with that. I also want to keep the exhaust toned down a little as much as I can. If it wont cause it to have a lot of droan or sound like crap then i would like to get one. I know a lot of gains can be had from the TP or HFC.

+1. The lightened crank pully is a waste of money.

Balance shafts are not the same as a harmonic balancer. Just about every engine made has a harmonic balancer. It is attached to the crank and prevents engine resonance. Some engines have the harmonic balancer mounted inside the timing chain cover while others have them mounted on the outside integral with the crank pulley or mounted directly behind it.

Balance shafts are chain driven eccentric shafts primarily used on I4 engines designed to reduce noise and vibration.

Looks like the reviews are so mixed. Some X owners say it was a great increase while others say it did cause some vibrations. For me its not worth the risk of engine damage for a minor increase. In other cars the pulley really had a postive effect, I guess this one just isn't one of those. Maybe something will get developed later on for us. Right now I have plenty of other go fast parts I want to get

I had one on my scoobie and it made a dramatic difference on the revving/shifting of the 4eat tranny of my N/A Impreza OBS. However, this tranny is light-years ahead of that unit (unchanged since the 80's), and I don't see it having any sort of positive affect in that manner. This car already revs and shifts incredibly fast, not much more can be gained in that regard (except for maybe first gear, haha)
