What are your FMIC Upgrade Recommendations???

OK, I am looking for your opinions.

I am shopping for an upgrade to the RA FMIC. I have a COBB AP installed now that will eventually be used for a Pro Tune MAP, and a DC Sports 3" cat back exhaust, UR UICP, GST Boost pill, and EVO X BOV all sitting in in my garage awaiting install over the next couple of weeks. Oh yeah, I also have a used EVO X FMIC that I cleaned up but is to say the least, well, used...

Like many guys I am seriously considering a turbo upgrade, and am not sure if I will spend the ~$900 with CBRD to have my little RA turbo upgraded, or just look for a decent used EVO X turbo/manifold/lines/etc for about the same price, or perhaps even less... I am reasonably certain a turbo upgrade is coming right after I get the mods I have in hand all installed, but am still not certain which way I'll go on that decision.

I think my performance goals for my daily driver are fairly realistic and reasonable at a modest ~310 AWHP and ~310 AWTQ.

I cleaned up the EVO X FMIC with a wire brush and fine sand paper and while it certainly looks far better than when it arrived, it is still very much a used item and of course my car is still virtually new. Now I am having a hard time actually installing a well used FMIC on my car, so I am considering my options and thinking about the improved cooling/performance capability from some of the larger aftermarket FMICs.

If you are reading this and interested in a used EVO X FMIC for your RA (cheap), you might want to PM me...

Given what I have shared, if you were shopping for an upgrade to the RA FMIC what would you choose, and why?

At this point I am thinking the 3" width ETS FMIC seems to be the best value at $499 shipped, but still have a very open mind.

Thanks for your input and cheers,
Dave

CBRD also has a brand new Ralliart specific FMIC, but I don't know if they've released pricing on it yet. Fitment and quality should be top notch though.

I agree that CBRD's is going to be a good choice, but it will also cost you a pretty penny...

There is a reason for that. The CBRD IC has to be cut to fit. Nothing else is RA specific.

Oh, I wasnt complaining, I think that the CBRD parts are worth every penny. I'm saving my money for some of their parts myself.

Thanks for the input so far.

Like many I have also been following the CBRD threads with high interest, and mentioned above I am most definitely considering the CBRD turbo modification.

Yes of course I agree with all that recommend considering the CBRD FMIC, but since rumor has it the price is ~$700, I am just wondering what other alternatives might be available that offer similar quality and performance, and perhaps equal or better value.

Also if I am not mistaken, in addition to being more expensive, the CBRD FMIC looks like it is most likely smaller than the ETS FMIC. That is not to say that in the end the CBRD might not be the best choice, but I am just trying to quantify all the best alternatives.

I know since the CBRD product is still so new no one would have experience with the CBRD FMIC yet, but would certainly be anxious to get any feedback from those who have used the ETS FMIC, or other competitive products.

Please keep the input coming.

Cheers, Dave

I know Chad has a very good reputation, and his parts are quality, but how can you judge a product that hasn't been released?

My friend Robert had a Custom Performance Engineering (CPE) intercooler on his 09 RA. I don't know much about it other than it looked to be a 4 inch Garrett core (which is what CBRD uses), with cast endtanks. Very nice looking intercooler. It's made specific for an RA. I also did not hear about issues with fitment.

ETS makes good intercoolers. I have the 3" IC and there were no fitment issues that I'm aware of. They did the install for me.
