don't normal new car batteries go for around $130 new? I imagine you could sell your old one off craigslist for somewhere in the $80 range for a quick buck (maybe more if you just bought an RA recently), which makes this battery and bracket upgrade pretty low in overall cost.

I have no idea how much this bracket will cost right now if I decide to sell them, but it seems like people are interested. I'm more interested in allowing the RA market/community to grow (via attachment to Evo X aftermarket), so I'd only be interested in selling these at a cost to cover parts/research/development really.

and jTran Studios isn't a vendor here on evom.net, and admins are pretty picky about that
I get my genesis batteries from portablepower.com. $104 currently

How good are small batteries in cold climates such as Canada? I see -30C in the winter no problem. I cry and my car cries when I start it at that temp. I am concerned about Cold Cranking Amps.

I currently have the battery in the trunk but needed to relocate the fusible link/terminal because it was rubbing against my intake. I decided to move it by the ecu like the evo has it but came to find out wires for the evo are little longer than the Ralliart so in order to move it by the ecu... had to extend some wires. First pic when I was installing the intake etc just shows how short the wires are. Second pic shows it relocated.Guess depends on how your going to mount the battery by the ecu. May be irrevalant but figured throw my two cents with the terminal relocation.

Yeah Kozmic21 actually mentioned this at a local houston car meet. He said the wires were wrapped up shorter, and they might or might not be long enough when unwrapped and such

but they're just wires, I don't think it will be a huge obstacle

No not a huge obstacle and easy to do. Figured try to help and let you know what also you have to do. The wires only need extended maybe 6 inchs. As for the ground may have to be extended also.. I can't tell you exactly since my battery is in the trunk.

On that note, FML my Genesis has failed me. Car wouldn't crank up so I checked battery cable connections, which were not loose. Positive battery post is broken on the inside. IDK how it got that way because I've never torqued the thing until tonight only to find it keeps backing out. Think the inside of the battery that the positive post bolt torques into is free-turning. This is what I read on AMS which is why, until tonight when I realized the posts were loose, I never torqued the thing:

"Small Batteries will fail if the posts are not torqued to 50 lb/in. Any more will cause damage to your battery. Batteries ship pre-torqued to spec."

Sorry for going slightly

Bummer. The only times the Genesis has failed on me is when I kept the car parked for a month or so with the terminal connected. Now I disconnect it anytime I think the car will be parked for more then a week. My Evo only sees action every couple of weeks now that I have the RA Sportback.

I've used the Genesis in some pretty "harsh" environments too. Track use in my Evo in 100-110 outside temps so 140F+ engine temps. To 10F with so much snow on the car I couldn't tell where the car was anymore.

I've overlooked climate issues with small batteries...I live in Texas - there is no such thing as winter here haha

they seem capable anyway from Bryan's input - just depends on how far north you are I guess, but I can't provide any personal input obviously

Here's some more pictures of the prototype

http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j2...batt_tray2.jpg

Notice the grooves along the bottom of the bracket again - went through great lengths to get a near-perfect fitting piece. Wanted to do it right, not a thrown together piece with a tie-down bar

Prototype should be made in the next few days to test real fitment and make adjustments. Can't wait

So those holes in the bottom go into the little posts left over from when the airbox was there? If so, raarsome!

when the stock RA box was there, yes

it's kind of ironic - if you look at the Evo X engine bay, it uses the same ECU bracket, just on the other side of the bracket there's empty space. Some of it taken up by the positive terminal of the battery, but still quite a bit of room even with the stock airbox (or AEM box). This bit of space seems to be just enough to fit a small battery - how convenient

so this should bolt right up without a single fitment issue! Hell it might even look OEM? We'll see!

still awaiting a prototype to test-fit

as you can tell with NFS's BBK thread, production for new, quality parts takes time. Johnny@JTran Studios spent a good few weeks alone just finding a good, reasonably priced supplier for the metal

I'm as anxious as everybody else - I'm sick of the stock RA turbo, AMS Intake, and P050B CEL

Parts take time. No worries. It feels good when it gets done.
