A/F logging question

Just a general quick question, anyone using an Innovate Motorsports LC-1 wideband for a/f logging? I've been searching their site and also threads here, but I can't find any info that directly answers this. I need to know if it will work with my laptop. I don't have a serial port on my laptop and will need to use a serial to USB cable, or go with a logger that already uses USB. I'm running Vista on the laptop I want to use, and will be logging with Evoscan.

So, long story short:
LC-1 + Serial to USB + Vista + Evoscan = works or not so much?

I am using an LM-2, but have it listed an an LC-1 in the system.
The only thing you are missing there is the serial 2.5 to serial standard which goes inline before the USB. Make sense?

I have not seen a 2.5 to USB direct, but that would take a step out of it. Hope this helps.

Yeah I follow you, I should be able to find that at a small local computer shop I know of. Didn't realize they use a 2.5 serial, so thanks for the heads-up . No other fantastic microsoft issues to report? (vista compatibility was my main concern lol)

wouldn't you only need a 2.5 to 2.5 cable to do 'stand alone logging'?

I need to go serial 2.5 to USB. If a 2.5 to USB cable exists, i'm all good. If not, I'll do what Noize said, and get a serial 2.5 to serial standard, then serial standard to USB.

Like so, if I follow correctly:

Wideband----Serial 2.5 --> >-- Serial 2.5----Serial standard--> >--Serial standard----USB--> Laptop

Correct this if it's not right plz

Here you go, thanks to my friend Jorts who did most of the legwork on this.

1. Innovate 3812 this has a 2.5mm jack on the end (only needed if you have an LM-2, not needed for your LC-1)

**2. Get a female to female 2.5mm jack to 2.5mm jack (If your LC-1 has a male end on it, you will need this. Otherwise, it is only needed for an LM-2)
http://www.kvconnection.com/product-p/km-27-5030.htm (where I got mine, quick shipping too)

3. Connect Innovate 3746 to the other side of the 3.5mm jack... with a serial cable on the other end.

4. Connect to Innovate 3733 which converts the serial into usb for the computer. (or any brand db9 serial to usb connector)

My machine is Windows 7, and it worked great. I know it will also work on XP. I have never tried it on a vista machine, but I would assume it should since it's getting converted to USB and it gets sent to Evoscan.

Thanks Noize! I wonder why they use the 2.5mm jack type. I suppose it makes it easy to daisy chain sensors that way. It gets a bit confusing on their site because they just say "serial cable to connect to a pc" when describing the accessories that come with the LC-1.

After some investigations, it looks like the LC-1 has two 2.5mm female jacks, so I'll just need 3746 & 3733.
